Trapper's Toolbox Trap Weight Weirdness

Post by magistrasa »

Description:
Traps stored in the trapper's toolbox weigh more than they do outside of the toolbox.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Traps weigh 0.5 lbs
2) Traps stored in the toolbox weigh 1.0 lb
3) Your ninny-wristed DEX rogue is now overencumbered

Screenshots:

(Note that 10.5+0.5+2.0 = 13)

I've had luck before by emptying the box and putting everything back in I believe, but I'm not saying this will fix your issue.

Heard of that trick and tried it before taking these screenies. It didn't fix it, and never has on my end.

Taking out a single item and putting it back in should recalculate the weight for any type of Arelith style container. If that doesn't get it to the proper weight, the container is likely broken.

Bear in mind that, due to item limitations, the weight will increase in increments, rather than adding the exact weight of the contents to the base weight of the container. Sometimes this means that it weighs more than it should, and sometimes less.

Its basicly figuring each trap at like 3lbs each instead of .5. When all the traps are in my inventory I am fine, when I put then in the box then I am encumbered.

I’ve seen Trapper’s Toolboxes with a weight of 10lbs that were actually empty. Adding a trap only made the problem worse, raising the weight to 15lbs even after removing it.

Most containers can be weird like that, after a certain amount of items go in the weight just shoots up.

As for the trappers toolbox though you may wanna consider making a brand new one and chucking it into an enchanting basin to slap the 10% weight thing on it.
It's gotta be a brand new unused one though, if it's been used it won't work.
Once you do that you can put like 30 traps in and it'll still only weight a few lbs.

It was always messed up, of what I can remember.

It just jumps discretely in quantum of 5 lbs. Based only on number of traps you put there.

Would be nice if someone looked into it.

Even a brand new trap box can't be weight reduced.

Here is the weird thing box 1 new and no traps 10.5lbs, box 2 new and no traps 5.5lbs. Put one trap in box 2 and it jumps to 10.5lbs.

Must have changed it recently then, because a few months ago I weight reduced one.
Have you tested it to confirm?

Put newly made one in basin, and couldn't select anything.

Ah fair enough.
Looks like that was patched out then, that's unfortunate because it made my rogues life a million times better!! Before I found out I could do it I just carried traps normally without a toolkit, worked out more efficient weight-wise.

It would be nice if an enchanted variant, like the jewelry box, was added for the sake of solving this issue to be honest. Same with the book bag, in fact i'm fairly certain we were originally meant to get an enchanted book bag but it was never added o.O
