Malevolent tentacles are the diet coke of tentacle horror

Post by Skeletor »

Krystian's malevolent tentacles are not as malevolent as one would expect.

You can only get hit by one tentacle at a time, which means only one level drain per round. The negative levels penalty doesn't seem to stack for saves, and there is no grapple effect associated with it at all. On top of that, the spell tends to fail after a time, not attacking targets anymore.

My character failed to kill herself even standing on a stack of this AOE for a long while, after some point she wasn't targeted at all by the things...

Idk if these are bugs or lack of pizazz from the spell, but considering it's a level 6 spell slot and it's now weaker than Evard's tentacles, maybe fix/buff this spell a bit?

If this wasn't already the intended, it absolutely should be. It shouldn't proc as often as Evard's does, at least. That's for sure.

At least on the PGCC it can have multiple hits and seemed to follow the grapple rules like Evard's though it doesn't hold them. Or at least I tested things that would have high grapple being largely unaffected by it (0 or 1 Fort saves even attempted) while low grapple enemies would take quite a bit of drain (3-4 Fort saves attempted). Could be something else that caused that result but seemed correct to me.

Unless Beamdog fixed the formula even a 30th level wizard with 20 buffed strength would have a 50/50 shot of even needing to make a fort save as medium critters have a +8 size bonus due to a bug.

Paralysis has been fixed in my test build and these tentacles are limited to 1/3 being able to reach any given target to grapple at once down from 1/2(evards, daltim's). I have also made changes to avoid batting for 1's on every grapple check. If additional adjustments are needed I will have to see after the existing fixes are live.

It looks like the lack of death on the PGCC can result in you having negative levels below 0 which results in some funny behavior. Since on the live server you would end up restored and in the fugue this shouldn't be possible on live. It's one of those things hard to test on the PGCC, I will keep an eye on it.

Oh.. I guess the changes aren't live yet.

One thing I noticed, it totally ruins your caster level, so that's a fun added bonus!
