I'm not sure if I'm missing somethign, but this weapon is kinda pointless. There are also few issues.
1. You absolutely can equip lance while on foot. But... if you get thrown off the horse, the script removes the lance from your hand.
2. Removing lance from the hand also removes it from quickslot associated with it. Extra fun when thrown off the horse.
3. I think it needs larger "target/animation range" configuration. By default a lancer tries to attack targets at point blank distance which is the middle of the lance. It kinda looks ridiculous.
4. It doesn't offer anything to bother with it, aside from visuals. The damage is low, there's no boost from riding skill of any sort, the only bonus is that you can equip it along with a shield, but then again you can do the same thing with a spear, due to custom changes.
It would be nice if the weapon had something going for it. For example, if you could charge with it on horseback, or if there was some bonus from riding skill, or anything like that.

Re: Lance
I think anyone who has a weapon focus and COMBAT riding should get proficiency in it for free.
It's otherwise stuck to one school and its an entirely mounted combat based weapon.
(and maybe something like he's suggesting, some other bonus from horseback - like charging.)

If lawyers are disbarred and clergymen are defrocked, shouldn't it follow that cowboys would be deranged?
Re: Lance
It is currently a martial polearm. If you get weapon focus in polearms, you have weapon focus for lance. That's the reason why I tried it.cowboy wrote: Mon Mar 23, 2020 1:31 am I think anyone who has a weapon focus and COMBAT riding should get proficiency in it for free.

However, aside from looking ridiculous (on foot it looks like you're carrying a lamp post), and having 1d8 dice which originally belonged to spear, lance seems to be completely pointless. There are also no cool lance recipes (on the wiki, anyway).
Maybe if it could use two-handed bonus when weilded with shield or something like that. Overall, I do feel like there should be some way to charge with it, because that's what the lances were for.
Also, mounted combat is not very useful either. It only gives +1 AB, and the ones who benefit from this feat the most are mages.

Re: Lance
Yeah, I just don't really think taking pole arms alone is worth it either. It's very specialized for a nieche thing.
I really like how weapon focuses are done these day but I think the categories are a bit off and tying them to other things could see more variety and fun things.
Knights / paladins using lances while on horseback would be cool. But there isn't really incentive to do that because polearm as a category makes you shield-less but for the spear (which clips through most shields) and ties you to one particular damage type.
Tying it to a melee weapon focus, and combat riding = people who actually would be using it are using it.

Yeah, it is mostly flavor. I had fun with my halberd wielder though.cowboy wrote: Mon Mar 23, 2020 3:51 am Yeah, I just don't really think taking pole arms alone is worth it either. It's very specialized for a nieche thing.
As for shields, spear can be wielded with a shield, but currently it feels like on arelith spears were converted into some sort of short pointy stick - they have 1d6 20/x3 (well, on other hand they're simple weapons, and not martial ones), meaning they have less punch than longswords.
