When Belduil was summoned to Ayin's bedroom in Cordor by a flippant summon person casting nobody expected to work, and everyone said, "....".

Hey, Oxtail, I might be remembering your log in completly wrong, so I apologize if that is the case, but way back in the day, there was someone who played a planetouched paladin who...had a green face? I did not even know what planetouched were, but I remember someone explaining it to me. I am pretty sure he was one of Erik Silverarm's Lightkeep crew.

rescuing feste (again) from skeflock

Dude...I still remember the first time Daedin and Amadeo were stumbling around after Refestus and Feste, trying hard to avoid them comitting suicide.

And speaking of skeflock, spying on him and Forlindel in the old Jhared's...that was fun.

watching the shallow woods portal (at the time a 2-way) at night to protect against UD raids- and one showing up all "you're on your own, prepare to die". this drow casts true seeing and sees 10+ epic surfacer stealthers surrounding them.
I was there for that. I was also there, a couple of days before, or maybe that same day, when two or three fully warded drow popped out of that same portal, shouted something along the lines of "Die kivvil! Lolth tu malla!" and promptly wtfpwned me and some other myon scout who was there with me.
I think it was stuff like that that led to the portal in the cordorian outskirts being taken away?

Also, I am disapointed no one has brought this up yet, but the guy licking blood from the ground in the old Aristotlus street. I remember him becoming a bit of a meme.

Hi Borin, I remember that paladin, his name was Rawk. He joined about the time my chap (Todd Feathergoat) did. We used to run around the Brambles slaying goblins with Erik and Sir Tane, I think that must have been around the late 2000s (2008/9?)

Aaah I knew I wasn't completely senile! Yes, Rawk, with the green face! Was he something like a planetar?

Also, holy crap man, I do remember Todd Feathergoat, vividly. Very cool to see you still around. And yes, that was straight up in mid 06!

Likewise, Daedin and Urebriwyn were epic characters of Arelith history, I remember both well. :) Can't believe how time has flown!

Also, holy crap this just came up because of something else but...

What about the days of no automated character rolling, and, instead, you had to actually schedule a point in time with a dev or head DM?

My first 5% roll (back when taking two years to get to lvl 26 was a normal thing), I had to wait some four months in real life for Jjjerm to be able to squeeze in a little bit of time for me.

And I might be wrong...but I am pretty sure he used to roll an actual, real life dice when he did this?

When Trintiren Elraiendel (hopefully I didn't misspell that) was the coronal of Myon and he and a few other high levels were escorting an old character of mine when I first started playing to the city of Myon from Cordor, and we got jumped by kobolds along the way. Some words in draconic were exchanged. Then my wee level 4 elf rogue just watched Trint the Bladesinger and a couple mage elves bombard and blow them up. That was my first taste of PvP and my rl reaction was pretty much just "Wow, man, that was wild!" Nothing major happened, but it was very much a quintessential fantasy escort adventure.

Oh the year was 1778...

You could build characters using experience learned elsewhere and more or less be alright. Now you have to memorize an encyclopedia of homebrew rules and rummage around in Discord for prebuilt character templates.
i miss those days. back when getting epic levels was an achievement. a big one. not something you just did if you played for a week and a half. powerful characters felt powerful back then. before weavemasters shot NPC saves to the stratosphere. before gold was buffed to the point that 100k is pretty much chump change. long before writs turned arelith into an arcade.

it's a different place, though not worse. just different.

i miss mistica, though, for real. good villains

Never thought I'd say it but I kind of miss not having writs around...
