I think this is how the bug works from my limited testing.
If you pick a race that has -2 to a stat such as charisma then pick a class such as bard (which requires 11 cha minimum), when you get to your abilities if you do not select recommend then adjust your skills your character is made with extra stat points which then invalidates your character on login, took me 5 attempts to create a character before i realised what was going on.
FYI I was doing a Duergar Bard (dont ask!)
Not sure if this is fixable but thought i would post it if anyone else had experienced this or to warn them.
