Re: RIP Gnolls :c
Most of the monster races do have some tribal tendencies. But as with most typical roleplay, it isn't the rule. All monster races can be quite mercenary, and as such can function in group settings with other races. Kobolds by lore are one of the most xenophobic races and yet time and again they function quite well in the various ebbs and flows of Andunorian society.

Re: RIP Gnolls :c
You could consider about playing a Gnoll who lost their pack and now has to cope without packs being readily available.
Or being outcast from the surface gnoll tribes (NPCs).
Try telling a different Gnoll story.

Re: RIP Gnolls :c
That's fair. I'm just so used to gnolls being the forum's punching bag race that I assumed it had something to do with that. Guess I'm reading into it too much, super looking forward to the next monster race (kenku??!! )!DM Rex wrote: ↑Tue Jan 19, 2021 5:53 pmLet me honestly TL;DR this for you.
It has nothing to do with a particular race's roleplay, presentation of the race, etc.
This creature model had two models, and it's being moved to a reward to make way for another monster race. That's it.
No need to read further into this.

Eager to see what this new race is. Hope it's a race with dynamic models. I like the idea of RPing goblins, gnolls, kobolds, etc. though it's a bit disappointing to play one when you look exactly the same as another.

I quite like the fact they all look the same makes the goblins feel more like a horde when you get a large group togetherby deserk » 19 Jan 2021 21:44

I too would back this, if just because it'd be hilarious to see fully covered Goblins trying to pretend to be Halflings on the surface.mirvv wrote: ↑Wed Jan 20, 2021 6:57 amwell, i would love to such would be used for gobos:

Re: RIP Gnolls :c
I really couldn't see dynamic goblins being used 100% in good faith, especially with the cover system. So many people wouldn't be able to tell the goblin from a halfling. Fully clothed goblins would mean the death of loincloth wearing goblins, I can already foresee someone making a "sophisticated" snappy-dresser goblin if that gets introduced.

An axe remain as axe, its the person who holding decide its function to chop wood or kill with it...
I dont think should we block possibilities, to make more favorable currently static models with dynamic clothing option, just becuase it can be used in bad way. These exploits should judge case by case not comdemn and prejudge a whole *place static race here* playerbase because "someone" would use it silly way. Yes, sure but many things should be not applied in this case because many other examples there out already used in very "silly" way.

Shouldn't, but often have to. How many things have been added over the years only to be abused and ultimately removed? I haven't been here for years but I've still seen a little in my short time. Any system based on the honor system is doomed to fail, wish it wasn't, but people keep proving me right.

Re: RIP Gnolls :c
This may surprise you, but goblins don't have an INT penalty and don't need to be played as a dumb poop throwing character. It's a bigger problem that people believe that is what goblins are than people who are trying to playing more intelligent goblins.

Maybe I'm just prejudiced against goblins, I can live with that. Bunch of dumb poop throwers.

What are you talking about?
All goblins are dung throwing chimps, gnolls are snuggle-seeking lovable anthrowolves that have learned the power of smirking and kobolds are adorable little mini-dragons, each having a master's degree in ethnicity and racialism.

Re: RIP Gnolls :c
The setting restricts monsters into very barbaric roles. Even high int goblins will end up in the sewer or cave, they are also hunted on sight. It doesn't really matter whether goblins should be high int or not. Also, the goblin tribe has the biggest library in the underdark. Yet are treated as vermin.
Arelith setting forces monsters to be barbaric. They can't really do alliances on the surface (we have tried), cant sneak into human cities to spy, and can't really do much RP beyond mugging players and avoiding Cordor zerg rushes. I personally think the DMs need to fix this problem, as forcing conflict is as big a problem than gnolls being nice to humans. It can be a little toxic at times.

This does not align with my goblin experience or seeing other people's goblins who are trying to do something other than A barbaric roleJoeKickAss wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 8:57 pmThe setting restricts monsters into very barbaric roles. Re: RIP Gnolls :c
This is categorically untrue. I would look at your own RP, and how you may need to change and adapt to fit in. If you want clout, you need to play the political game and get footholds with the right people. And if people aren't impressed by that library, then find out why, since it's probably not because it was assembled by goblins.JoeKickAss wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 8:57 pmThe setting restricts monsters into very barbaric roles. Re: RIP Gnolls :c
By now this could be another topic in and of itself, but I just wanted to chime in to say that I, for one, do have a goblin alt that is not a tent-spamming poop thrower, and beyond a lack of free time, the second biggest bummer about playing her is, indeed, the lack of customization options or visibility of equiped gear.
To the point where I am heavily considering shifting the whole concept onto another UD race so that I can have more fun with that part of it.
Also, as with any other races, goblin PCs *tend* to represent out of the norm figures from any given population. One can play them as just another regular joe, specially with the new backgrounds and classes, but even then, you're still likely to stand out more than Bob the dwarf accountant on any given tuesday.

Re: RIP Gnolls :c
It genuinely perplexes me that poop-throwing is considered an issue in the UD, when there's poop mountains full of poop-slingers that drop poop for you to shoot when they die.

Sorry to say but i hold Trade Minister rank with a goblin with high int in Table, which is drow district, so its not impossible just harder than with other races.JoeKickAss wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 8:57 pmThe setting restricts monsters into very barbaric roles. I don't understand the disdain for goblin poop and its association with low INT. I actually don't think there are really any current "poop throwers" running around Andunor?
That said, I do play a goblin shaman with 16 INT that is somewhat of a dungmancer. He probably wouldn't throw the poop because it is too sacred. It's the source of all power and should be revered.

Yeah, I'm the meanie for thinking a literal pee-pee poo-poo joke character serves any kind of narrative purpose other than being a puerile nexus of literal toilet humour. Grow up.TroubledWaters wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 5:06 pmHm, better change up my character because this guy doesn't like it!
