Skills Rework Feedback

Post by RedGiant »

I was generally positive in the other thread about character flushing, and for many characters the skill rework is a straight up boon (See any class that gets free skill points).

Yet I somehow have the ability to focus on whatever Arelith is going to nuke next. I cannot now even remake my main character since parry was dropped from cleric. I like giving things to characters, but taking them away, somewhat mysteriously in this case, kinda sucks.

For that matter, looking over the update, its a parry apocalypse. I'm not really sure why this mostly flavor, mostly pve skill needed flushed almost across the board. I'm sure there's more here to discuss...but mired in my own junk atm.

mostly flavor, mostly pve skill
so you just have no understanding whatsoever of the skill's usage

ps: parry was removed from primary spellcasting classes as it implies a masterful use of martial prowess, it's a perfectly reasonable removal from those skill lists

pp: can you play a 30 unarmed monk next

That sounds horrible.

(A cleric built around parry that is, not losing it.)

I would seriously like an education, from you Time Adept, on the proper usage of parry. I especially want to know how it is useful in PvP and even more specifically how competent PvPers will be tripped up by it, which your take on my comments seems to imply.

Also, while I understand the theme of the removal, I fail see why it was stripped out of even 3/4 AB classes, who can be more than competent in the martial prowess department. (I.e., we have Bards now that can't parry without cross-classing.) The theme seems to be "if they are capable of casting, they are incapable of parry," which seems nonensical to me, especially when it can be recouped with an optimal 3 dip. All this update seems to have done in the parry department is prevent parrying elemental monoliths or pure class healers, neither of which I would say is exactly at the top of the food chain these days.

Moreover, as Dr. B notes, parry was never the way to optimization, let alone on a cleric., hence, "mostly flavor" and a following of the RP. Which is apparently gone now, so I suppose I can go ahead an min-max a kiting, zen-arher or something instead. But hey, don't take my word for it.

Definitely enjoy the bumps to skill point generation. I do wish all classes got an extra point per level given the addition of multiple skills. Hopefully that will be considered.
