Ranger-AC overrides parry weapon AC
Description
==========
When dual-wielding weapons as a ranger and using an offhand-parry weapon (ex: Main Gauche or Swordbreaker) the parry-skill AC-bonus that should work with these specific offhand-weapons is not applied properly.
Instead the lesser "Defensive Dualwielding" AC applies and the (higher) parry bonus AC doesn't.
Steps to reproduce
----------------------------
1: have 3+ ranger levels (to gain defensive dualwielding +1)
2: have 10+ total character levels and 10+ hard parry skill (to qualify for parry AC+2)
3: wield a onehanded weapon and no weapon in the offhand = receive +2 parry AC
4: equip a weapon with the "Additional Property: Parry AC" in your offhand = loose your parry AC bonus and gain Defensive dualwielding +1 instead
Expected result
-----------------------
The higher of the two shield-AC-boni should take precedence
Actual result
-------------------
The ranger defensive dualwielding overrides the higher parry bonus

Re: Ranger-AC overrides parry weapon AC
When a character is dual-wielding, it does not qualify for parry AC. This is an intended override.

Re: Ranger-AC overrides parry weapon AC
There are offhand-weapons that exist specifically to be used with parry though.
I am wielding a shortsword in the main hand and a swordbreaker - one of the special parrying-daggers - in the offhand.
Swordbreaker has a specific property "Parry AC" that should make it retain the parry bonus AC.

That has Parry +4. Parry has its base use (i.e. a combat mode) still available to characters; Arelith has also changed it to be better albeit it still has its major weakness (i.e. limited to 3 APR).Gwenneth_Corvain wrote: ↑Sat Aug 27, 2022 5:30 amThere are offhand-weapons that exist specifically to be used with parry though.

Re: Ranger-AC overrides parry weapon AC
What is the meaning behind the special property of the Main Gauche and Swordbereaker then?
They -specifically- explain that they are to be used as offhand-weapon to retain the parry-AC in their description AND have a specific visible property on them to mirror that.
Either way something is wrong with these weapons then. Either they are working as intended - then their misleading description and properties should be removed.
Or their description and properties are the intended function for them but they are not working according to it.

These properties should allow for parry AC, as far as I know. I'll have a look.
(However, stacking with ranger AC might be a bit problematic from a balance perspective)

Re: Ranger-AC overrides parry weapon AC
agreed - they should not stack.
But if the parry-AC should be possible with these offhand-weapons at all, it should take precedence over the rangers defensive dualwielding.
That was the original point.

Could you provide a screenshot?
I think this might be happening because when wielding a parry item in the offhand, the parry bonus is halved - so +1 in your case.

Screenshot with one hand empty: Parry-AC+3
Change with a Main Gauche in the offhand:
I think you are on a right track - the parry-bonus that would be given seems to get reduced from +3 to +1.
But it also seems that Ranger DDW gets applied last in sequence.
Something interesting btw - this is on an Archer-Path ranger who should not even -get- Defensive Dualwielding.

Re: Ranger-AC overrides parry weapon AC
Yeah, then the Parry bonus is pretty much working as intended :)
The item property basically enables half the parry AC, rounded down. So 3 becomes 1. Once you have 4 parry AC, it'll be 2 when dual-wielding.
The ranger bonus seems to be broken though, good call! I'll have a look at that.

Re: Ranger-AC overrides parry weapon AC
Maybe to add a bit to this:
My archer ranger with feat Dual Wield so far had the ranger AC bonus (+3), but since yesterday, the AC didn't add. I am unsure on whether this was wrong before (that she got the AC bonus), or it is now broken.

Re: Ranger-AC overrides parry weapon AC
It was fixed because it was broken. Archer rangers aren't supposed to get dual-wield AC.
