Better Imp Polymorph V2

We will file suggestions here that did not make the cut. Don't expect detailed responses, but the most common reasons are:

  • implementing the suggestion is impractical, or too much work for the gain
  • the suggestion is thematically against our design philosophy
  • the suggestion is too detailed/low-level
Keep your suggestions broad and focused on RP benefits, please, not detailed suggestions of how to fix everything.

Better Imp Polymorph V2

Post by Goldeen »

Hello! This is a revision of a past suggestion in an attempt to right some misinterpretations of the post below.

viewtopic.php?f=26&t=40208&p=313191&hilit=Imp#p313191

Essentially as of now Imp polymorph is the innate spell polymorph self. Lasting 30minutes at lvl30. You are able to keep permanent form other than a brief second period of refreshing your polymorph at the end of duration. This polymorph does not accurately reflect Imps’ ability to polymorph/shapechange.

The response to the initial suggestion was a fear that Imps would retain humanoid form without consequence. I want to say that this idea is geared ONLY towards familiar skins. As that’s the closest to lore.

Proposal: Better Imp Polymorph V2

Idea1: Hags, Yuanti, and other races have a custom polymorph. Apply this to Imps with familiar skins, no humanoids.

This could be applied to Imps using familiar skins, replacing the polymorph spell given to Imps.

Idea2: If the concern even with familiar skins is that Imps would stay in the form permanently, then I recommend applying the same limitations that polymorph self has when using it.

This would allow for the same exact limitations in place on live currently. This would serve the same purpose as idea1 while considering the previous response to the suggestion.

Overall I believe the polymorph self spell has little use to imps other than a free boost at low levels. The giant spider, umber hulk, troll, and zombie do not contribute to its craftiness as a race at all. Furthermore pixies can usually be seen as tricksters and are the most common polymorph on the server RP wise. It does not help an Imp in their manipulative nature.

If there is a desire for it to be detected when they’re shapechanged. Then I recommend adding a spot for polymorph as well as a dispel chance for it. This though would be more time intensive than simply using the same system hags or yuanti use.

Mechanics note:
Can add an imp and ability check to existing polymorph and adjust what it turns into, as opposed to normal.

Rejected for similar concerns as last time.
This too shall pass.

(I now have a DM Discord (I hope) It's DM GrumpyCat#7185 but please keep in mind I'm very busy IRL so I can't promise how quick I'll get back to you.)
