Shadovar Temp Shops

So I know it's super unlikely this gets adjusted again, but I just wanted to share what I've seen since the change went through.

The two Shadovar Trade Post temporary shops were inexplicably 24 hour duration rentals, the only temp shops of that duration on the server afaik. This led to some really interesting "pop ups", where people would run legitimate trades there for a week or two at a time. Shops changed hands with pretty good frequency because while 24 hours isn't hard to refresh, it's not permanent. The shops were always stocked and items moved quickly as it is a high traffic area.

A few months ago this was adjusted and they were moved down to 3 hour rentals. Since then, I have without exaggeration seen not a single item in either of the shops. It makes me sad! That's all. I'd love for this to be looked at in some way.

I wholeheartedly agree and have seen exactly the same thing. In my experience, there are only 7 temporary shops in the entire server (excluding Skar which I can't comment on) which are worth renting: the 4 in The Hub in Andunor, and the 3 in the Cordor Outskirts. I've yet to find any other temporary shop which gets high enough footfall to generate sales. (I am fairly confident that footfall is the causal factor and not my high prices, because I am the sort of person who prefers to clear my inventory with massively cut prices to the point of being obviously under market value). Even somewhere like Dis, with a two-way portal right next to it hasn't yet generated a single sale for me.

It would be nice if the Devs have the data to compare area footfall, and then make the most popular temporary shops shorter duration (or turn them into a goldsink and increase the hire price) and the less popular ones longer duration. I don't think it would do any harm at all to increase popular shops to 6 hours and unpopular ones to 24-48 hours.

At the same time, introduce a mechanic that abandons any shop which is entirely empty for a certain number of minutes, to stop players leaving shops but not abandoning them, thereby stopping anyone else from using them.

I might as well pop in and mention that in less trafficked areas, temp shops really stop making sense at three hours. And while the tradepost does see an amount of traffic, it's usually people taking advantage of the convenience that attunement potions provide, or going off doing what is now colloquially known as writwork.

There ARE some tempshops off the beaten path that'll always make sense like the ones at the fairgrounds, because obviously, they're only meant to be used when a festival is being held there anyways.

But. Otherwise, these stalls are more than likely going to see less and less use. Putting the onus on the players to use them to generate RP in these spots is a bit of a misunderstanding too, I think. Naturally, people tend to gravitate towards the hotspots -- places where a lot of traffic is coming and going -- because they'd like to get involved in RP. Intentionally setting up somewhere there's a lot less traffic tends to just... end up with you wasting sometimes several hours doing nothing. It's not very fun.

Basically, what I'm saying is, please put a temp shop in the Heartwood Grove so Dethos can sell me spidercakes there.

Aha. I was wondering why these shops are always empty these days. I didn't know their expiration was shortened.

I'm a +1 for reverting this. I've gotten some dang good deals at Shadovar in the past, but they've been gathering dust every time I've checked these lask few weeks... which I think was maybe four times in total. Hoping they come back!

Others and myself used those shops constantly when they were 24hrs.

I haven’t been able to come across them in use once since the change, and I check every time I go through. Real sad it was changed just because it was “unintended”, there’s no fun in that.

I used to -check- that shop all the time when it was 24hr because there was a good chance someone was selling something there. Now it's pretty much the opposite.
