The Internet Search History Thread

Post by EnigmaticSpirit »

So. I'm sure in the course of our RP we've all searched for or researched some odd things. I've done a bit of writing in the dim and distant past, sometimes these answers are hard to find. So we fall down internet rabbit holes.

In a bid to collate this odd and unusual knowledge, and make each other chuckle at the oddities of our respective internet search histories and hopefully not alarm the FBI so they know why we research this stuff... here we go.

I'm sure we've all learned bits of a foreign language and some of us may be old enough to remember before xanalress was a thing, saying the words manually and confusing everyone. Ryana has been learning "Amnian" because well. Velasco. Which has led to me learning Spanish. I've in the past used kemetic phrases for my Mulhorandi characters and of course French for the Cormyrians. I'm even having to remember my German because of the Cranes!

My most bonkers search to date has involved finding the perfect angle if one were delivering a blow from close range with a punching dagger to instantly incapacitate or kill with a single blow.

But this week I have fallen down a rabbit hole of Spanish swords and smithing techniques. Very cool stuff. Might see if any Spanish blades were on Forged in Fire.

Winifred Rhoswen: "He said good things. Even said ye weren't a Paladin when I asked!"
Ryana: "Not a paladin." I'll take that as a compliment.

I sometimes find it amusing how much ive educated myself because of nwn, Arelith.
I generally lean on Google alot lol when Im trying to get something down/ right. Just siimple things that others might find obvious.
What is the difference berween a knife and a dagger?
Whats the difference between a sword and a sabre?
Whats the difference between a boat and a ship?
Some thesaurus stuff like, whats another word for ....?
Actually, now i think of it, most unusual Google,
Can Eagles swim? (Yes BTW)

I googled a lot of weird stuff relating to fungi and types of divination using entrails and other weird types like that. There are actually some good papers on how it was done historically.

Unfortunately, the character was based zombie fungi and I had no idea the Last of Us was about that too. So once the show started, I felt like too much of a copier and killed my interest in it.

People have blown up that word, Satanism comes from Saturnism, they worship the planet Saturn, each planet is suppose to have it's own properties or even "personality" if you will. Saturn is all about law, and like with everything else there is a good side to it and a bad side, the term "Satanist" is more referring to the self-serving, hedonists attempting to influence others to change laws for their benefit. You see so much of it in the music industry these days. I think the devilish themed crap mostly comes from their personification of Baphomet, who is also a hermaphrodite and seen as the perfect being as a result.

Everything is defined by its opposite, which is why you can't have good without evil, it's a package deal.

Did you know that the days of the week are the planets in our solar system? Sunday, Moonday, Mars day, Mercury day, Jupiter day, Venus day, Saturn day.

The IT people at my workplace, as well as my FBI agent, likely think me a witch with all the recent research I've done into "tarot" "crystals" and other related things... all for my RP as a cards-using diviner.

I was raised in a cult. Feel free to DM me if this still interests you!

The breeding habits of the banded murex. (It's the snail they used to use to make purple dye.)

I had to read actual published research papers on them. Someone asked my druid how to sustainably harvest purple dye, then asked me to write an IG book on it. So I did.

All I have to say is that I swear my character concept and ideas existed /before/ the release of Baldurs Gate 3.
