Gone in the wind.

Post by susitsu »

(This is gonna be so stupidly long. Plz don't judge me.)

So, Alphellius was the first character I ever even got above level eleven on Arelith. Ive been off and on for four years and generally just sort of made ten different characters, got them to around ten, and stopped. And at first, I did not even enjoy the character. The reason for that being roleplay kinda died to me two years ago. But the idea struck me to just force myself to play a character I couldn't joke around on. See what became of it.

And what became of it was definitely a revitalization of roleplay for me, thanks to the many people I met and interacted with. And lemme tell you, there were a lot. I'm sorry to anyone I miss, I'm writing this quite late and tired and full of le nostalgia. It's also very, very hard for me to remember a lot of his earlier adventures before meeting the Bloodmaws and the Infernalist.

Starting off...

Coco_Haram/Vikarr Drest/Stag - This ridiculous guy is both a best-friend of mine out-of-character and was Alphellius' best-friend in-character. I had told him about the ridiculous roleplay on my old main 'The Bear Druid' or Amdendur Xilo and it made him want to try Arelith. So it's thanks to him I'm even back here, even if he didn't stick around in the end. We went from 3 to 19 together and had many fun and silly adventures together. And he did the most bro thing ever. That's right, Morgan, I knew he told you all I was spying. Even IC, Alphellius had a strong suspicion his intent all along was having her convert Alphellius. This guy. We mess around with each other a lot both OOC and IC, but I can say confidently I love having him around. Exceptional roleplayer when he wants to be and knows how to always make me laugh.

DruinsBane/Osterman Ahnwalt (?) - He's given me like several speeches about how clever he is for being a coward. And really, this character is ingenious and too enjoyable. Another OOC friend and one who knew how to even with our past experiences together, still make the roleplay absolutely fresh and enjoyable. For everyone's viewing pleasure, I'll tell you one thing that never stops making me laugh. He literally grinded the Cordor crypts to level ten. Aussie timezone, he didn't know what else to do without us lmao.

Flameborn/Quin - She helped him break away from his fear of Bane. And yes, he was a terrified little Banite monk when he first arrived on Arelith. It was this character who...basically dragged him through the mud on different adventures all the time and helped him become strong as a person. Both his love interest and his worst enemy. They made for quite a pair. Especially because with monk saves and SR, I was the only person who could survive the Wild Magic longterm. I can say without a doubt she was one of the most involved characters in his development and I loved everything that came out of it for him as a character.

Caldura_firebourne (?)/Anadra/Skharr. Pretty much specifically Skharr, Anadra was cool, I guess. - Ahh, meeting Skharr was so much fun. Running into her in the Underdark, playing it off like I was with a Drow and was her servant. And staying up till 8 AM, so worth it for the adventure that followed. Skharr basically accidentally tricked Alphellius into coming to Andunor and working for her. This is one several of the characters on here I will say that sort of blew my mind with just how much I loved interacting with them, how unexpected they were for the 'norm' of their style. Without a doubt, Skharr is one of my all-time favorite characters to have met and it was hard for Alphellius and myself as the player to betray her. The player is top tier chill, too. Super nice.

Balagor (Last name I forgot) - Black armor wearing Dwarf barbarian with some wizard or sorcerer levels I think. Great guy. One of the few good aligned (I think?) characters that Alphellius had nothing but respect for. I'll just say he fought his way through a bunch of server crashes to get to me in a high level area when I was stranded out and totally unable to kill even one thing. This guy is a hero. And, I'm not sure he ever knew about Alphellius' dealings. Knew him as 'Lucas' even. When Alphellius even felt he needed to go to someone about bad things going on, Balagor was who he went to.

Alexandria De La(?) Fontaine - The other good character he had nothing but respect for. Never forget our first encounter. Burn the heretic. Kill the mutant. Purge the unclean. FOR THE EMPEROR! Aaahh...we made so many quotes together. I met up with you and Baldoin on the second remake of Alphellius and it was so, so worth it. The only paladin he ever liked, and when she came to him, trying to pull him away from the Infernalists, he genuinely didn't know what to say. This was definitely a meaningful character that I enjoyed every interaction with. (He seriously felt bad, she had a good speech!)

I know you want to show up here, Robo. Good job, you played a French woman who I could literally hear the voice of in my head when roleplaying with her. High-pitched and so, so annoying. Hearts and kisses <3

Wheua Vharcan/Wobbles/The Bone Witch - This character, I genuinely had to take the time to calm down from how much I was always laughing during our interactions. When Alphellius first met her, he wasn't sure whether to...be afraid of her or pity her. Truly insane. And always, always fun to interact with.

Uhg, I feel like there's so, so many more that could go on here...so, I'm actually going to put these next two together because the exact same things can be said about both of them over and over. This is a big one.

Mary Blythe and Morgan Gracehold/The REAL Elfis Impersonator - These are two characters who I cannot believe how alive they felt. Every interaction. It's not often roleplay makes me actually...feel like it did with these two. There are moments with both of them where I'd be either thinking "Aww," just laughing, or feeling like my heart was breaking because of how incredibly expressive they were. Both of them were really something, and absolutely unforgettable. With Morgan, this was more-so. After Quin, she really took ahold and led him in his development as a character. These characters are amazing. I really wish I could have ever even messaged Morgan's player once to tell her so. Most of the meaningful times on Alphellius were spent talking with Morgan and this character (I'm sorry, Mary, Ilu2) will always hold a spot in my heart. She was also the mom of the group. Trying to push Alphellius to get with Shiera...psh, bad Morgan. You silly goose.

Speaking of...Cheekyhobo/Shiera - There was something always so odd in how they interacted differently everytime, I felt. One moment, they were distant associates, another good friends, sometimes like brother and sister, and then there was that one time in the Hut after the ritual. She was really fun to be around for Alphellius' bad times, too. Always giving him verbal smacks on the hand for when he would become angry over something. It was never expected to me the characters would grow as close as they did, and I love that it happened. We had awesome adventures together. Maybe again sometime, someday, on different characters. Great player over-all.

Andelos - "You'll always be kiddo to me." "O-okay." I'm gonna come back on Alphellius at some point really soon just to react to your grave. Only a few years younger, but he was still treated like a youngster by him. The brooding teenager of the Infernalist family. As he grew as a character, so did both their disputes, but at the same time, their bond like brothers. And all the talk in tells, I mean, really...BLOOD WAR NOW! You're a great guy and what you thought was your fault, it wasn't. You played your character fine and were always enjoyable. Tons of laughs together, man. I wish you had waited just a bit longer to roll. I got excited for what could come from his conflict with Nyilan...and maybe one last talk with Alphellius before you did would have been nice.

CoastalSurf/Marya Al...I'm not trying to spell her last name from memory. - I regret that they never really had a good talk. The one thing I really, really hated about Alphellius is that he was practically incapable of really being honest and speaking from his heart to people, and I feel like they could have had a good one. She was always a refreshing character for her acting, youthful brashness, and her moments of truth, when she showed just how clever she really was. It kills me they didn't have a realtalk, but Alphellius gotta be all "I am stoic monk. I do not show emotion." I always did want to, but I couldn't find an excuse for the character >.< I know it would have been some really nice roleplay, though. Always was with Marya.

Batrachophrenoboocosmomachia/Lucia M. Yes, I have her username, but not Lucia's last name. I practiced trying to say her full username just to mess with Coco at some point. Don't worry about it. - So few interactions, and another character that made me genuinely hate playing Alphellius because of his reserved nature. He just...kept everything to himself, but I did laugh at how she seemed uncertain of how to react to this. Really, absolutely amazing writer. There were times where I just wanted to back away from the keyboard because I just felt like I wasn't good enough. And really wished I had met her on a completely different character who could have provided a great back and forth. You, you the player, if you read this, seriously? Thank you for the interactions we did have. They were worth every second of it. And our first meeting was great. Making fun of Laura when something so serious was going on had me dying laughing at the keyboard.

Minuteman/Stellen Varg - EVERYWHERE I GO, I always know that Stellen Varg was an absolute bro. This silly, foreign character who you knew had your back no matter what. A lot of the time, I actually hate characters like this. But if they're done right...and in this case...it's being done exceptionally. I wish Varg had been around more for the high times with Alphellius, that they had gotten to go through some stuff together because he's a great character and the player, too, is just2cool4skool. He's a funny guy, and the stark contrast between the character and the player gives me some whiplash. I look forward to what more comes of he and Nyilan's interactions.

Hush/Lairilwa Seel/Shade - One of his three best-friends and one of the only two characters he found himself willing to have damn long and honest talks with. Late mornings in front of the Arcane Tower, just going through their pasts together. Iffin ya' a cuttah, ya' good in my eyes. I won't say too much more because that would be giving away things I shouldn't that belong in roleplay, but if things hadn't died down for the Nine Fold Star, I know great things could have come out of that.

Ann Thrule - Alphellius stated himself how much he liked Ann due to their similarities. These two characters didn't really need to talk about a lot of things to just agree. They had a very similar approach to a lot of things and while they could have and should have talked more, there were just things understood between them. And they did get to share drinks at one point when Alphellius was just boiling down from the weight of all the work he was doing! As opposed to a lot of previous statements about Alphellius, Ann is one character who I was glad I met on him. And messing with Andy together, toooo much fun. Their relationship as friends was perfect and something I'll miss from playing him.

At this point, I feel like so many names are slipping by me still...and even more that I wanna go on and on and on about and...yeah. So I'm just gonna go straight for one last big kudos to the last character I met on Alphellius that just really changed things.

SolitairUnwraveling/Alejandro/Zehshyrr'kalikstraza - Can a human have a blue dragon best-friend? Well, this one sure did. We were just bothering Ann together for laughs and just being a cocky guy, when he asked if he wanted to go hunting, Alphellius, of course, asks him if he can handle Duergar. Not expecting him to be the absolute badass this character is. Both a very good friend out-of-character now, and someone who made every experience unforgettable. The progression of their friendship was something I love. Where it started, both regarding each other with suspicion and caution once they understood what they were, and where it ended...jokingly pretending to be brothers, but genuinely treating each other like they were at times. So many laughs and meaningful talks with these two. Another character who made me glad I met him on Alphellius. Who made playing the character worth it, for all the times I just wanted to move onto a new one. (He deserves higher RPR, he puts in way more effort on his roleplay than I do.) The adventures they had together really breathed some life into him. One of my best-friends now both OOC and IC on Alphellius.

aaahhhhh it feels way too long but I wanna put more names and put more stuff and I'm just posting it now. I'm getting way too sentimental for a roleplay character. *Sniffs.*

Dude no. No. This thread made me cry. Want to play Alejandro again.
BRING ME BACK MY UNOPTIMAL BRO!

In all seriousness, Alphellius was amazing. Aside from the occasional joking around, its been a long time I've seen a character who felt so 'real' and so separate in personality from their player. Unlike every relationship any of my characters have every gotten into, there was no, "Today we don't know each other tomorrow we're best buds". It was a slow, painful trudge. Zehshyrr unsure if he would need to kill this.. Human meat sack, or if he would need to start another war in order to protect him. The conflict. IT FEEDS ME.

I really wish I could say more. That I had a specific instance to bring up to point out just how developed this particular character was. But I really don't. He wasn't a dramatic explosion of rp. He was a slow, realistic stream of it. I'll never forget Alphellius and I'll hate you forever if you end up rolling him.

I legit might have cried just a little bit. Alphellius is one of the most well-thought out characters I've come across. This is the kind of character who makes you stay up 4-5 hours past the time you really should have gone to bed. From the long, loooong heart to heart talks to the incredibly terrible pus, the synergy between Alphellius and Lairilwa's personalities was always so fun to watch. The amount of depth put into this character floored me with each session, no matter how long or small it was. I only wish I could have had more time with him.

TLDR: Will totally miss him dude. I may have shed a tear or two upon reading this. Pls keep making characters this influential and inspirational.

I, also, will hold a great amount of dislike and resentment if you roll this character.

The four m's got In so many arguments over alphy! Marya became so jaded because of his monkishness. Had they ever had a chance to talk, that would have been one hell of a conversation
