To an underrated gem of Arelith.

Post by Dinosaur Space Program »

I avoid kudos threads for the most part.

I'm one of the small group of ongoing oldbies that still play after a decade plus, though I prefer my privacy to see genuine reactions over advertising who I play. So I have seen a lot of RPers, good and sometimes bad, come and go over the years and the time I play. I don't tend to yank them out for any particular spotlighting at this point.

But after two years or so of interacting with this player OOC, IC, and seeing his many creations... I have come to the conclusion that this man does not get nearly enough credit for what he does. Which is magic.

I have never seen someone create like this player does.

He researches, he puts thought and effort into each and every aspect of his character. Gods and dogma, racial influences and history of the races involved, over all world interactions with the subset of whatever this character is, etc.

And then he does something truly unparalleled.

He plays it to the hilt.

He does not waver, he does not break it, he sees it through to the end even if that end is a bad one.

And made all the more astonishing is the fact that OOC he modifiers things while keeping his character completely IC to make things Easier for other people to do their own RP while Never Once breaking his own for their sake.

I often do not get to directly interact with a lot of his characters (he is a busy player, I have lost count), but I have the privilege of seeing them develop and change things from a distance for he is nothing but a true blue instigator.

Instigators are the hardest kind of RP to do, and also the most needed. They provide conflict, they provide clash, they are the movers and shakers of RP communities and often get flack for this when the shaking does not sit well with some people who like the status quo.

I have been bullied myself for being an instigator, I know for a fact how hard it can be to see through, but he does it. Asking me often during incidents or after how he could have handled things better, always working to be a Better person OOC and IC about making events Fun for everyone involved and also providing the needed conflict in a setting that is entirely build on the concept of conflict over everything.

He has made mistakes at times, but he has always been remorseful and done his best to change his behavior, correct himself into being a better community member then most. He doesn't make excuses for himself, but instead looks at the RP that inspired it, the IC actions that went south and considers how to best do it in future events.

Frankly, he has excellent judgement as to the correct action for his characters to take at any moment and sees it through, much to the chagrin of some.

I won't name his characters, though some will instantly recognize some of who he plays and played. But he remains one of the stanchest LGs I have Ever seen, playing a silver dragon in a way that I found believable in an alien race (and I can be picky on this sort of thing), he has played some of the most truly Evil characters I have encountered on the server as well, and is one of the few people I have ever seen pull off a truly believable neutral alignment.

Some of his evil characters he has since rolled used to give me chills. And I have been around the block and then some on all kinds of RP at this point in my Arelith career, as it were.

And he Does Things with them. Even his neutrals, he is out there instigating and creating situations for people to react to, people to watch, people to be involved in, making stories around the random characters his meet on the block.

He embraces the server and all its RP and rolls with it. Rolls with it without the elitist judgement some people come to develop, without excluding unless the character itself would not associate with that person, and takes people on merry and extensive adventures in the style of whatever his character is at the time.

He is, without doubt, one of the best RPers we have.

He is creative, impressively active in recruiting others and reflecting their RP, and the first to support others in their endeavors and sometimes taking the full OOC hate of other factions to support the characters his are involved with. He truly isn't afraid to take a stand, but at the same time, is truly not afraid of listening to reasonable (key word) discourse on things.

He has had a lot of bad mouthing happen to him over time, to the point I am sure some people are under the impression that the rumors and hate are reality.

They aren't.

I wish I could name the characters he currently runs. It would surprise a lot of people. It would show his versatility and his abilities that people claim he does not have. But I respect his privacy.

So Kudos, Ferret Roll.

For being better as a person on all these issues that have swamped you, and also for being one of the best damn RPers this server has ever seen.

I hope you get recognized for it properly one day.

I haven't really talked to Adalbrandt much...Just twice and both were brief times but his reaction to that Banite in the temple was priceless!! Also happy to have ICly been given some of the best advice a good aligned character could receive.

I was surprised to poke my head into the forums and see this thread.

Big thanks to you Dinosaur Space Program, I have to say that you've been a big help to me with most of my characters. Few of them would've gone far past the planning stage without your input. For the characters of yours I've seen, I'm pleased to have played with them. From good to evil and everything inbetween, you've made an admirable gallery of heroes, villains, and lunatics.

Thanks to you too Phaesporia, I wasn't expecting Adal's once in a while visit to the temple to have much of anything going on. Then several things happened and it ended with Adal trying to get back to his retirement before more people came to ask for his help. Definitely made him feel wanted!
