Area Name: Cordor (The Walled City) Government District (Library)
Area resref: cordorlibrary
Current Fixture Limit: 59/60

The Cordor Library is a neat space, but hardly has the room for much in terms of decoration and more importantly, Bookshelves. Due to this, many of the shelves have to be hosted in the upstairs quarter, which isn't ideal. The upstairs quarter has a healthy 100 fixture limit, perhaps the public library space could be raised to similar?

Area Name: Southern Peninsula (Crows Nest) Drydock
Area resref: Southern Peninsula (Crow's Nest House)
Current Fixture Limit: 140/140

Just won a house there, and the fixture limit was at 135/140. I placed the remaining 5 but would love to have the opportunity to customize the living space a bit more after finally getting a house <3

Thank you.

Area Name: Underdark (Middle) Saltspar (Prison)

Area resref: bat_ud_op_c

Current Fixture Limit: 59/60

Im trying to decorate the place a bit and am finding that difficult with the current limit. 60 seems like it would be adequate, but, it seems like the limit is reached with far fewer than 60 placed fixtures somehow

edit by Twohand: fixture limit increased to 120 on 6/23/24.

My character is running a cultural enhancement project for Sibayad. Part of it is dolling up the outskirts. Would love to see this increased to 60 or more.

Area Name: Baator (Dis) Councourse Capaneus

Area ResRef: bat_ba2_ext_a

Current Fixture Limit: 59/60

The Concourse has eight shops, two residential buildings with large walkable rooftops, and a decent amount of open space. One of the rooftops is currently occupying the majority of the fixture limit, so after factoring in the public crafting area, we're left with very few fixtures available to decorate the other rooftop, to say nothing of all the stalls.

Could some of the wilderness areas be reviewed (and lowered?). There are some crazy fixture-spam locations such as The Weatherstone, Southern Peninsula Jungles, Skaljard's Weald.

edit by whitewingeddove: fixture limits adjusted where appropriate. Some notes on changes made and fixture use:

  • Fixture limit adjustment was made by size of area and amount of open area available, and the chances of it being used for a special event. I don't mind if people attempt to "tame" part of a wilderness area, as it's an effort that requires consistent upkeep to maintain, as a wilderness area should be.

  • Fixtures in public spaces should not impede the general walkability of an area. If fixtures are making it hard to navigate an area, bring it up to the DM team to sort out. This is more about using fixtures mindfully instead of adjusting the area limit.

All the locations you mention have something though to make sense for bigger limit. Weatherstone's a druidic site ala Grove. Southern Peninsula is currently getting expanded by Tuskians, and Weald has the entire Seldarine shrine in one place (okay, that one might be a bit bloated but I would say is nifty for elves).

Maybe that's for the area devs or Irongron to decide?

  • The Weatherstone really isn't a druid's grove area. We recently saw a huge amount of fixtures left everywhere during an ongoing DM event, they've slowly been picked up and removed afterward but there's still a fair bit of stuff left outside the quarter (which has a huge amount of room inside for fixtures).

  • This could be a personal opinion but 36 altar fixtures dumped in a pattern seems like too many when you consider it's a low-level writ area that a lot of adventurers travel through to kill various wildlife and monster spawns.

  • The jungle areas are probably the worst of the lot. The Half-Orc camp has a huge fixture limit and a bunch of private quarters which are often unowned. It's racially locked to half-orcs only, has a racially locked ship, has it's own portal within the camp and has a number of stores included. There's a large limit in that area, but fixtures are being slowly spammed out into the jungle, into the areas around the tower out there, into the Crow's Nest, across other nearby areas.

The main point is that these are all areas that are wild natural places. To have so many fixtures vomited out degrades the feeling for players and changes the area to the extent that it doesn't fit the vision area devs had for it.

The rules as they currently are stop players from being able to do anything about this IC because we are limited to bashing 3 fixtures and removing 1 per 24 hours. However there's no rule on the other side that prevents people spamming fixtures in areas, there are only the fixture limits. My hope is that wilderness areas generally (these are only three examples) could be looked at for LOWER fixture limits in order to maintain their presence on the server as wilderness areas.

Area: Underdark (Andunor) Sluice Gate
Area ResRef: udcitdocks02

I was pointed that this might be right thread for that.

The private garden that belongs to the house at this location is fairly big, but there are only six herbs planted. It looks a bit weird when you can't plant more herbs a few meters from the last batch because "This land is fully planted." If possible, please increase this limit to a reasonable value. The garden could easily fit even 60 plants, and they would still be a reasonable distance apart.

edit by whitewingeddove: The amount of area given to put plants is to give the owner more options on where to put plants, not necessarily that the entire area must be filled with plants. Six plants is a reasonable amount for a private garden.

Area: The Iron Citadel
Area resref: 363rdabyssallaye

Current Fixture Limit: 275/280

Proposed Fixture limit 300-320

Though there is only one quarter shared with the rest of the space, this guildhouse is home to at least 7 people. Currently, we have anywhere between 15-25 passing through regularly in the "public" spaces over the course of a week. A good chunk of this is delegated to fixtures that are rather historical, as we are at loathe to get rid of the art and sculptures previous owners of the Citadel have made. Our goal is to host several events in this space, such as auctions, trade fairs, performances, etcetera.

It is also made up of many large open spaces, so even with the 280 fixture limit, it is a struggle to fill it in a manner that makes it seem less cavernous, while also having some flavor for the current inhabitants, while also making sure that all the fixtures are interacted with, regularly.

So I ask for at the very least, twenty more spaces to give some more breathing room.

edit by whitewingeddove: I reviewed the area's fixtures, and there are quite a few places where fixture density is quite high, and fixtures could be removed to free up fixture space without affecting the overall look and feel of what's there. Large clusters of fixtures in a tight space can increase the fixture count quite a bit. I think 280 is an appropriate limit for this area. Reach out to me if you'd like some help or tips on freeing up fixture space.

Area: Underdark (Andunor) Sluice Gate (Canal House)
Area ResRef: udcitdockshop

Current Number of Fixtures: 94/100
Proposed: 120-130

Reason: Canal House have wrong number of fixtures (aprox. 5-6 fixtures are added to the limit despite them not being there). I spoke with DM about it, and there is no way to easly fix it (one of the solutions would be to take all fixtures away and remove potential fixtures that could be placed somewhere off map - which is not ideal as I worked for several days to set up area properly). Therefore I am raising request to increase number of fixtures for that area to 120 or even 130 to offset the problem. I am in the middle of creating a share space for people there, where all kinds of events could be organized (art, lectures etc.) and I would use more space for actual art there (for now I mostly set up tables and required items to setup theme of Restaurant). Also quarters which are on last floor are bit empty, because I had to sacrifice them so others rooms are more appealing. Lastly, this area is similar in size to Saltspar Prison (Area: Underdark (Middle) Saltspar (Prison), Area ResRef: bat_ud_op_c) and limit there is 120 fixtures.

edit by whitewingeddove: I didn't touch the fixture limit, but I found the 9 rogue fixtures that were eating up fixture space. I placed the fixtures in the bedroom section of the quarter if you'd like to keep them!

Proposed Fixture Limit - 120-200 for The Twilight Grove, 150 for the Elven Quarter, and 150-200 for the Crystal Pools.

Justification -
Just a general ballpark, as anything is better than what these areas are currently stuck at. Considering the significance of these areas, not to mention their size. There is little to no room for added creativity, even with the culling of unused or old fixtures. Growth is sorely needed with these older areas as well. There's a lot of other quarters inside of Myon I didn't get a chance to look at that all share fixture limits with one another, thus making it difficult to properly decorate them without screwing over someone else in that cell. Not to mention a shortage of quarters and shops in general, but those that are there have basically no elbow room whatsoever.

Posting on behalf of MorbidMix aka Elora.
.

edit by whitewingeddove: fixture limit in the Elven Quarter increased to 60. The city areas of Guldorand are supposed to have a low fixture count by design, but a large chunk of this area's fixtures is taken up by plants, so an increase is warranted.

Fixture limit in the Twilight Grove increased to 130 also because of the large number of plants, and because the area itself is quite large.

8/25/2024

The Crystal Pools area is already pretty saturated with fixtures. Given this, and the cavernous nature of the area, I think the current fixture limit is appropriate.

Area - Arelith Forest (Lake Benwick)
ResRef - ir_lakebenwick
Proposed Fixture Limit - 50-100
Justification - 15 is abyssmal. This is a somewhat 'sacred' area that has great set-up for shrines, encampments, druidic ceremonies, rituals, even festivals. You cannot do that with a limit of 15 while sharing a server with hundreds of people. It's absurd. Especially considering there's a quarter nearby where people might want to have signs or decor in front of the entrance.

edit by whitewingeddove: After checking with Irongron, a limit of 15 is intentional for this area. Is it to keep the area feeling like untamed wilderness. I think 15 is enough for a few small shrines placed around.

Area: Cordor (The Walled City) Saddler's Row (Noble Residence)
Proposed Fixture Limit: 260-280

Justification:
We are already almost at the limit and the quarter is very large while still feeling empty. I'm unsure if this is due to the "rogue" fixtures or the static fixtures counting too, but especially with smaller fixtures like candles, the place is filled up way too fast already starting at high numbers when I moved in. I definitely do not have 200 fixtures in here of my own, nowhere near that in fact. So if either the "rogue"/static fixtures, or whatever is adding to this number could be removed, or the fixture limit could be increased, that would be amazing.

edit by whitewingeddove: I reviewed the area's fixtures and personally counted 196 of them. There are quite a few places where fixture density is quite high, and fixtures could be removed to free up fixture space without affecting the overall look and feel of what's there. Large clusters of fixtures in a tight space can increase the fixture count quite a bit. I think 200 is an appropriate limit for this area. Area - Cordor (The Walled City) Government District (Court)
ResRef - tic01
Proposed Fixture Limit - 150
Justification - The Court House is pretty big and never used and we would like to try and build an office in it so that the building can get more use out of it. But 60 fixtures is not much to keep shelves and desks in to make an office.

Area - Baator (Dis) Concourse Capaneus (The Cloven Hoof)
ResRef - bat_ba2_hoof
Current Limit - 240
Proposed Limit - 300

Justification -
The Cloven Hoof now has five quarters, and the bar itself at this time(no the VIP room isn't real), not to mention a basement with a single room that I don't actually think is accessible to players. Regardless, five quarters(two first floor, three second), is a lot already, tacking on the bar and its shenanigans and there's 240 isn't cutting it. I believe it was raised from 180 within the last year, but I might be completely mistaken. As someone that actively plays there I've tried to be sparse with my personal quarter so other people have more room, I'm reluctant to skimp on the details I've added to the bar proper however. 300 is the absolute max I think that the space can currently handle, but anything at this point would be a bit of relief.

Area: The Dreadnought Below Deck
Area resref: ironcladint

Current Fixture Limit: 89/90 (filled since the post)

Proposed Fixture Limit: 150 (or more, honestly, having owned private quarters that reached around 120 fixtures of limit, while this is a shared space and one in particular that needs to serve storing fixtures).

Sailing is a fairly fixture-heavy system, between the siege weapons being fixtures, barrels, flags, etc.
The Dreadnought below decks, being a space to store such things, could benefit from having a higher limit.
It's a fairly spacious area, with several rooms, many of which are barren and empty, lending themselves very well to custom decoration, but the tax paid by keeping various custom siege weapons and trophies makes it somewhat restrictive. It also holds the captain's own quarters, such, all of these add up quickly.

An increased limit would make it much easier to decorate without having to worry about needing to discard things like surplus siege weapons, generally being custom-described or being trophies with sentimental value, often both.

It's also the below decks of an iconic ship, used/seen by many, rather than a private quarters, such, much more people would benefit/get to see the fixtures.
Am not sure what other flagships' belowdecks' fixture limits are, if there is a precedent for this.

edit by whitewingeddove: fixture limit increased to 115 on 9/21/24.

Location: Guldorand (Elven Quarter) - High Elven Hall

Fixture Limit: 240

Requested: 300

Reasoning: this is a large hub area with a lot of social roleplay and locations where players like to put decorative elements, helping to orientate people with local affairs/politics and set the tone of Myon and the elven quarter. It also encompasses four large quarters with a lot of open space very much inviting decoration and embellishment with fixtures. I recently acquired a fairly lightly-furnished quarter and since then, the area has shot rapidly towards the limit without me adding anything. 60 per quarter would probably be enough, but the public areas add more pressure - so raising it to 300 allows for all the public/settlement fixtures and still a healthy amount for each quarter.

edit by whitewingeddove: City areas/streets with notable foot traffic are kept low on purpose, and the fixture limit here should be relegated mostly to the four quarters. 240 is an appropriate amount

In split areas with quarters and city streets, how is it possible to communicate or enforce this intention?
I have just purchased one of the very large lovely quarters and was dismayed to find that despite no portable fixtures (that I could find, at least) in the property when I acquired it the area was already at 226/240 fixtures, leaving only 14 fixtures for this home.

I have dropped some random fixtures in to hold those 14 spots, but this quarter is barren in its current state. Are we able to increase the fixture limit in this area to 300 are requested, if there is no way to ensure that the fixtures are allocated in a way that whitewingdove suggests?

Area Name: Guldorand (Elven Quarter)
Area Resref: guldcityc
Fixture Limit: 60
Requested: at least 80, maybe 100-120

Reasoning: I did a check for the area in the thread, and I'm surprised nobody else has asked yet. This is a large area with a lot of empty space, and with empty space comes the vision of interesting spots to put things such as player-made flower gardens (using the multiple plant fixtures), statue art, noble house flags, etc. However, right now, it's very difficult to be able to make much of anything, and its current population is unable to decorate it due to this. We have a few really nice fixtures out, but everything is forced to be singular because there just isn't enough room to support more intricate fixture designs.

There is also a plantable garden in the area, and each seed eats up a fixture spot, so the area is soft-locked out of even more of its current fixture limit. It would be nice to have a slightly higher limit to account for the seed garden and let players make their quarter culturally fashionable.

Area Name: Guldorand (Fortress city)
Dimensions: 18x21
Area ResRef: guldcitya
Tilleset: tcm02
Fixtures: 30/30

Request: Some small amount of increase, 15 or 30? Would also be open to discussing making some current fixtures permanent, or exchanging some current permanent fixtures for a higher limit. This is the main area of Guld. It is hard to manage or make interesting with this limit in place, without creating some serious RP conflict of having to remove existing structures that have been there a while. Would be also open to some evaluation on current fixtures to may help find and consolidate them.

For comparison, area guldcityb has 83/100 fixtures present at a size of 21x16. I understand we do not want to allow too many free floating fixtures, but I think the citizens and administrating body should have some more freedom in how this is managed.

I also get we do not want to have an area overwhelmed with just signs. That is fair. But, with the current low limit of fixtures, utility becomes the dominant choice, with people choosing signs over decoration. The administration will work to find ways to communicate information in more pleasing ways (like the lawstones), and can encourage citizens to do the same.

Thank you.

Area: Ships (The Sea Leopard) Below Deck
Arearef: shp_guil_cab
Fixture limit: 60
Requested change: 70/75

As highlighted in the above post by Gerhazo about the Dreadnought, sailing is a fixture heavy system. Between weapons, pirate chests (that aren't always able to be opened immediately after finding them) and other misc bits and pieces I'm sitting at the high 50's for fixture limits and hovering around 58/59 even without all weapons on deck stored below. Recently I've been able to offload a few things (temporarily) to get to 56 but I'm always aware of the limit and scared of losing something that is placed due to this hard cap.

Therefore please can I get 10/15 more spaces for some breathing room here? I already did toss a few extra non-essential and flavour placeables after a discussion with someone months ago about a possible fixture increase and I'm still struggling a bit here.

In addition - is there any way of modifying this area to be able to rest up to 100%? It has 3 quarteresque rooms so the cap of 50% rest seems a little low.

Area: Shadow Plane (Cordor) Den of Thieves
Arearef: sk_slcden
Fixture limit: 220 (currently at 218)
Requested change: 360-420

There are 6 quarters in this area, three of which are completely empty of fixtures. One quarter that is owned and has always held a lot of fixtures is about 2-3 times the size of the others. All of them are completely empty rooms, so for someone to make it feel like a living space, they need to place a lot of fixtures. The current fixture limit only allows for 36 fixtures per quarter, if one completely ignored the shared spaces of the Thieves' Den.

Overall, I think a limit of 420 would make it so this is an actually appealing location, rather than perpetually emptied quarters.

Hello,

I would like to request a fixture limit increase for the following area:

ResRef: area056
Underdark (Andunor) East Wheel (House)

The current limit is 120/120, and the area is divided between two quarters:

Deadly Nightshade, owned by Siri'ana
Khal'Belaern Trade Guild, owned by Illathnah Khal'Belaern

I make this request because 120 fixtures, out of which 70 belong to Siri'ana who is a very old character with a lot of history, 50 fixtures is left for our guild for which these quarters serve as Headquarters. Furnishing the place to meet the needs of a moderately sized faction that continues to grow has proven a bit of a challenge, and there were some incidents of fixtures disappearing on our side due to crossing the limit - i only hope that nothing has disappeared for our neighbour.

We simply have not enough space to finish the fixture arrangement, not to mention wiggle room to avoid future incidents. I would like to request an increase of at least 40 more fixtures for this area.

Thank you for your consideration, Xinivrae

I've lost weapons because of the fixtures being so limited now, so I'm bumping this again in the hopes we get some breathing room to prevent this happening again.
