Maybe it's time to change the name of the server to Arelith 2. Because it is not going to be anything like what we current have, nor should people expect that.

I had decided to step away from Arelith for an extended period of time. (To quote the most classic break up line of all: "the problem is me, not you").

And that is still my intention.

But this is the sort of thing that always throws a wrench into that sort of plan.

"wtf... a vibrant multiplayer community that ISN'T being monetised?

this simply will not do." --beamdog, probably

Thanks for making me pay 20$ to keep playing the game I've been playing for years now guys. : )

Weapon Focus (Trident) should now work
properly.
This is the real hype update.

Oh for Heaven's sake, that $20 is going to make maintaining and developing Arelith much, much better from the server side of things. The devs here have maintained a free persistent world for a 15 year old game purely out of love and this is obviously a development that excites them greatly and will make their unpaid, often thankless jobs a whole lot better. It will also surely bring new life into the community and keep it going for a long time to come.

I really don't care to hear complaints you have to pay $20, once, to keep playing a game you bought years ago and got many thousands of hours of entertainment from, and will probably get thousands more in the future. This is a great thing.

After all, what would be the difference between this and the game suddenly having a new expansion that the server decided to require? In the end, the devs are going to use what they think is best for the server and will provide the best experience for the player base. I'll gladly spend $20 for that (and already have, by the way).

How is one going to be able to play the EE server? The game is only on pre order presently (As far as I know). Is this purely for the people who manage to get into the beta?

For the new EE server, how will it effect the other servers in the world sense? Will things that happen there matter for the other, "main" arelith servers and world? Is it seperate, and just a testing bed?

The village of Skaljard was settled about one hundred years ago an isolated, desolate shore far to the north of Arelith. The seas are frozen over for much of the year, but when they do clear, for a few months a year places will able to sail for Cordor.

So yes, this is a real 'live' place, just not currently connected to the main isles.

For the first days though, yes, it will be more of a demo, as some aspects cannot yet be properly set up.

As it says on their website:
"Pre-order for a chance to play early on Beamdog."
So presumably they'll be giving access to pre-order adopters in waves, testing server infrastructure as they let more people in.

Are the HAK and EE transitions going to run concurrently or consecutively?
