I bought the Deluxe, hit the head start page and it's acting as if I don't have the deluxe..

I guess they just haven't started the beta yet? XD
It's a tad confusing really... No dates posted either

Thanks for making me pay 20$ to keep playing the game I've been playing for years now guys. : )
I'm sorry you feel that way.

In my opinion, $20 is nothing in exchange for the life the release will breathe into the online community and the additional support the game will receive from here on out. Think of all the things that Arelith (and other servers) can't do - and realise that all of those things could be possible now, some at launch and others as a result of patches. I'm working on some really cool stuff that I can't talk about yet.

I do appreciate that the cost is prohibitive to some though, and that really sucks. If the cost is too much for you (or others) then I think that some members of the community have already volunteered their help.

I think a lot of the concern just stems from the fact that what's been shown in the stream and release notes is, for the most part, stuff available in 1.69.

It's a reception I'm seeing among a lot of the playerbase. "Sure, you're promising me stuff in the future, but why should I buy this now?"

Don't get me wrong; as I've mentioned privately, and to many of my friends post announcement, I'm excited for EE. The promise of new players and continued development is really great. But a part of me can't help but wonder if reception would be more universally positive if the game's release were postponed so that some of those resources could be added at launch.

Maybe lets refrain from directly insulting the admin team, huh?

...wow, really? I don't mean to shout people down or a start a fight or anything, but could we try and -not- call people shills, maybe? Just seems that maybe there's a more civil way of saying that, if you really feel that way.

I agree, Lets be respectful...
The admin team has always done an amazing job, and this change to EE seems like it will help them even more than it helps us as players.
That's not to say it doesn't help us as players either: I see more modding potential, more support, more players, smoother gameplay, major bug fixes, etc...
I'm an owner of multiple EE games already and I can say despite the appearance in a screenshot, there are definite noticeable improvements once you actually get in and play.

For the first days though, yes, it will be more of a demo, as some aspects cannot yet be properly set up.
So, once the demo period is over, characters made on the EE server are permanent into the future?

I'm excited for the new players.

Though, as Peppermint said, there's not really anything I can see right now, that's not available in some form or another. Save, maybe, the instancing - but you could emulate that pretty easily.

The graphical update was incredibly lacklustre, I wouldn't be able to distinguish between EE & non EE.

Promises of things to come, which I'm sure are made with the best intentions and will, aren't actual things and from the live stream it doesn't seem like there's any intention, to add nice full res assets - which is really the bulk of the work on graphical updates.

The notes on assassin balance and marvelling in the stream at the DM all-port button was... particularly irksome to me as the stream was everything but 'hey we actively play and love nwn', but 'hey look at this retro game, give us some money'.

It's in the position of a lot of promises but no real content right now, so, could have done being 'launched' with some actual meat on the bone IMO.

But, regardless, paying $20 with the potential of a bunch of new players is fine. It just feels like there could be something more there.

Edit: Apparently you can do instancing now, anyway. Never mind that!

Whilst critisism is fine, I would ask that people try and keep their comments polite, fair and avoid accusations.

Don't like this development? That's fine.

Accusing people on this forum of being liars, 'shills', mouthpieces for another party, and what have you is Not On. Thank you.

That is the plan, no promises for the demo over the next few days, but beyond that, we intend to carry everything forward.

The current EE module actually is based on the Arelith engine from 10 years ago, because the NWNX plugins aren't ready yet. In a few days, we'll upgrade the EE module to connect in to the same database as the current live servers... and at that point we should be able to guarantee persistence.

Awesome. And the CDkey/Account stuff that was mentioned earlier, that's in now too? Like, will RPR and such carry over, for people logging into the EE version in a couple days?

Given what I've seen Devs do with like "Stone age " tools of the current systems they have, I'm pretty excited to see what can be done with updated software that works better in the modern era

Hey guys,

I just pre-ordered NWN: EE. The FAQ says not everyone will have access to the Head Start. I'm not sure to understand since Beamdog said this on Twitter:

We're aware of an issue blocking NWN:EE Head Start access for some pre-order owners. We're working on it right now.

I'm exactly in the same situation of this guy:
The FAQ says that pre-order owners are eligible to be selected for early access. How will we know if we've been selected? Only two files in my folder at the moment, but eager to play!

Then Beamdog replied with this:
Head Start access will be available soon!

Someone can explain me? Does everybody have access to the Head Start or no? Will we be informed if it's not the case?

Thank you.

Even though I haven't played in months this is great news

Let me quote one of the Godfather famous phrases:

“Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!”

I'm personally excited simply on the basis that less time spent trying to keep NWN running on modern hardware/software means more times for devs/admins to make cool stuff, and maybe even play the game.

There's some valid concerns raised in this thread, and some nice positivity too, but the amount of negative and hostile reactions is surprising and kind of discouraging.

Heading to bed now after a very long day! For those that gain access you'll find a demo version of our new module already online. Keep in mind this is a 'demo', and for the next 24-48 hours don't consider it part of the 'live' setting. Without DB access many of the spawns are set to default NWN creatures, and stored items will be lost when the period is over.

Server is named Arelith EE Demo

Right now there is an issue for people trying to download it. Once it is patched, you will be able to download it fine.

Under the Beamdog client and on the NWN game page, you will see English as a drop down menu under the title. You will need to swap that to English - Head Start. Once it’s fixed for you, you should have an install button there and it will work.

Anyone joining, if you made a Beamdog account and wish to change your playername you do type it before entering the EE. So make sure it’s something that you want and don’t get trigger happy, because you may skip that and be stuck with whatever Beamdog name you picked. It may be possible to edit the .ini file, we are just unsure right now.

They said in the livestream that they can't do this because it would break a lot of the existing modules, which they are really trying to avoid.

I didn't get that vibe at all.

It's my understanding that this 'launch' is more of an early access soft-launch than an actual release. The point of which is to get the community engaged and playing so that they can gather feedback to make it the best version of the game possible.
