When it comes to their concept, we're in agreement :)

It's just a shame that when bioware designed the class, they definitely designed it as the antipaladin. Inflict wounds instead of Lay On Hands. Dark Blessing as opposed to Divine Grace. Contagion versus Remove Disease. Smite Good versus Smite Evil.

It would simply be cool if the mechanics matched the theme. That's been my stance.

That's where the similarities end & I think we can both agree that 3.5 D&D had an issue with just copying abilities for a lot of classes. Blackguard receives sneak attack & summoning. He is a melee-summoner. Paladins are a burst DPS. Those mechanics inform their playstyle in addition to the abilities you listed. That's more an issue with 3.5 than the arelith aesthetic.
