Sorting, customiseability, and other suggestions are all in the works. I'm pretty much solo-working on this at the moment and appreciate all the feedback immensely. Keep it coming but please have patience!

I've been wondering if it's beneficial if other players know you're looking for a DM, or if it could lead to OOC theorising, meta-gaming and bad blood after PvP gone bad; including people assuming it's this or that player who's filing a report against them.

Not sure how others see it, but perhaps that's information best reserved for DMs.

So this was something I thought about, I personally think it's quite an extreme edge case. If there are serious PvP reports, 95%+ are done via forums and SHOULD be done via PM from forums. Taking reports in-game for serious issues such as PvP encounters is very taxing on evidence collecting/gathering.

If there are a considerable amount of concerns from other members of the team, I'll be sure to change it. But as it stands I'm keeping it as it's a convenient way to see if anybody needs help via a quick skim of the portal.

Not sure if relating to portal feedback really, just a follow on from my previous post:

Can a sign be put up in the Welcome room that states: Further help and advice can be recieved from player assistance. Use -ama to see who is online and tell friendly if you have any questions!

a way of telling new players of AMA, not point having this badge if its unknown to new players.

I've put a notice in the helpdesk clerk dialog about this, but you have a good point about the sign. Not sure how many people talk to him. Will see if that can be done.

This will be put in. I'll be using that line as the header if that's alright with you! Thank you very much (Again!)

http://portal.arelith.com/index.php
  • Customisation Options Added
Full RGBA customisation of playercards. (Meaning you can control the opacity on either side as well.)
    Card Resizing
Ability to pick specific static background
All of the above will be persistent through the use of cookies. Don't forget to click SAVE after picking your color for it to save
  • Other
DOM Parser and socket fixed. Page will update in real-time if kept open.
Classic mode cookies made more consistent and reliable.
Text-animation removed for the time being
  • Known Issues
Player Card resizing won't function correctly on Microsoft Edge.
Player/Character-names get cut off after card reaches certain size.
Realtime editing stops functioning after a certain amount of ticks.
(Just do your changes, save and wait for the changes to apply. Or refresh the page to re-enable live-editing)
Card-colors get applied to classic mode (Reset to default, and then access classic without changing color)
If you're having trouble viewing the changes, or see odd glitches that I've not listed here. Be sure to CTRL+SHIFT+R on chrome or CTRL+F5 and see if the glitch persists. Cookies should be consistent now.

I'm going to be taking a break on the portal for now, but I'll return soon enough as there's still a lot from this thread that needs to be implemented.

This update sucks so bad that I like it.

Thanks. This ruins my ability to be immersed in complaining about the new portal design, but also inadvertently buffs clerics.

Fortunately, I'm picky enough to sustain my own hate and have found something to pick at and provide feedback (not a suggestion, suggestions are VERBOTEN) on.

Maybe some players might have an easier time reading the tiles if there were an option to choose a blank color for the background.

Text only, mobile-friendly version, please. The “smaller” tiles fit a few more on my mobile screen, but we’re nowhere near good yet with 300 players online. The tiles are way too big. Surely text-only output without an image behind each one is possible.

Also, please make it sort alphabetically from top to bottom as others requested here.

Thanks for keeping at it.

I'll look at making a superbarebones optional CSS for easy viewing. But it'll be a bit longer as I'm taking a short break on portal to work on other backend projects.

I don't suppose that now that this option has been created, that we could go back to seeing who is on what server? As a scryer it's really driving me up the wall.

Is there rhyme or reason for this?

I guess this answers why I find the portal so confusing because there are 5 columns but 4 servers.. I guess it's all alphabetical?

Not differentiating by server has, so far, in my limited experience, made coordinating with speedies cumbersome. I'm the type of player to send follow-up tells to players to ensure they got my message / also if they can make it (and or respond). Because far too many times I've wasted hours of my time waiting for people to show up, who can't. It's probably my biggest peeve.

I've had to Laurick around Arelith to get to the right spot where I can simultaneously send a speedy, and also be sure I'm actually on the same player list, because I can't rely on -playerlist to tell me right away.

Because it is blatant outright Metagaming and has been flagrantly abused in the past?

I'm sorry if I come across as rude, but if you take a second to look at the player-cards you can clearly see that it's sorted alphabetically by row. If you want to expand the amount of columns, click customise on the top left and decrease the card size.

And the fact that there are 5 columns and 4 servers by default should clearly indicate that player columns != server columns. As intended by design

This is a non-issue in my opinion. A tell doesn't need to be sent after every speedy. It's an extremely small drawback (For OOC information mind you) to mitigate metagaming.

It is. When the decision was made to split the servers again last month it was something that the dungeon Masters outright said was going to happen because the last time there were four servers there was a vast outbreak of malicious portal abuse where people were tracking other people through the portal based on what server they were on so they could coordinate attacks.

Scrying as a powerful ability but having out of game knowledge that somebody is currently around and walking without knowing it in game first? That makes you near omnicient and we aren't gods.

On: -dissaportal

Does this save between sessions or will it be something you turn on every time?

Does it block being recorded on 3rd party tracking sites?

They were just web-scraping, so yes. Unless it's possible to query a NWN server directly.

It persists per PC. Doesn't matter if server resets.

3rd party sites cannot track you anymore if -dissaportal is active.

Love -dissaportal, love the new customization. Entirely happy with the all grouped into one list feature. I would rather we keep the alphabetizing by row instead of by column, as scrolling up and down is bothersome while looking through names.

Thank you for avoiding the issue of metagaming by server. I even struggled to mitigate it.

Further customization/options request!

On mobile, can we make the server names/image boxes and information smaller? I have to scroll a bit to even get past them due to their large size.

On mobile, the smallest namecard size doesn't allow for two columns while on portrait mode. It is always one column. If we could have two (or three?) columns that would be great!

Thanks for all of your hard work!

Thanks for the kind words Miaou, I agree on the column thing. I'll look at making "columnising" optional in the future. But it's easier said than done. So it'll be a while.

Good point on both counts. On the desktop version I went against making the text resize with the cards as it would make the text very difficult to read. But for mobile and its smaller screen this makes a lot of sense, definitely on my todo list.

I don't know if others have this problem, but for me, the portal page becomes a horrendous memory hog, when left open for a long time. I like to keep it open at all times, since I do a lot of meetings and use it to see who's online, but this latest update has made it even worse. At times, it's even crashed my system by using up all available memory while I wasn't paying attention. Closing the tab usually frees up 1-1.5GB of RAM.

The easy solution, which I've had to resort to, is to close the page and reload it only when needed, but I'd love to see a text only version as another option.

Big oof update: It ran up to 2GB within an hour.
