Its not hard to win a fight even as a bad wizard if you understand ONE thing. Timestop, Haste. Run through a transition, Drop I. cloud, shadowplague or acid fog. And just keep spamming it. It will change the flow of the fight MASSIVELY but yes there number of REALLY good wizards that don't need cheese tactics like htat are few and far between.

Transition abuse in PVP is against the rules and can get you banned though.

Transition abuse is only when you go back and forth several times. If your character is just running in a straight line and there happens to be transition on the path - that's fine to go through.

I thought that dropping persistent aoe spells on transitions is also considered a form of transition abuse.

Just running through transitions during PVP is fine if you don't fight right on the edge while others are loading in. Using persistent AoE spell on transition is definitely against the rules though.

Setting up aoes on transitions are explicitly said not to do that in the server rules

Katernin Bersk, Chancellor of Divination; Kerri Amblecrown, Paladin of Milil; Xull'kacha Auvry'rae, Redcap Fey-pacted; Sadia yr Thuravya el Bhirax, Priestess of Umberlee; Lissa Whitehorn, Archmage of Artifice

Thanks for the reminder. I did honestly forget about aoe spells cheese (and havent done that ever). I just meant crossing.

I don't pvp to much but technically as i recall transition abuse is jumping back and forth between transitions to lose someone in a fight. leastwise thats the one im familiar with usually used by stealth PCs to vanish. though technically speaking your body loads in before you leave the load screen which would cause you to take damage and yeah >.> could be called abuse. because its taking advantage of game load mechanics but its not that different than chasing something through a transition and them getting a few free hits in while your flat footed... Which also happens alot.

While everyone else has reminded about the rules: yes, camping transitions and placing AoE spells intentionally on/nearest transitions is also abusing transitions by performing an action that wouldn't normally work. If I can see the area ahead of me, I will not run headfirst into the fanfare of a Mind Fog + Tentacles + Acid Fog combo. There is a very good ounce of common sense to be found in playing the game fairly and treating others how you would like to be treated in the sandbox. They intentionally put in a mechanic to make you immune to damage for a short duration on transition directly to counteract people who were breaking the rules by being rude in this way.

I haven't forgotten about my desire to clear up several misinformed, misleading and/or misconstrued comments made in the original post. Hopefully by this weekend!

Well i am glad that was implimented. I very heavily advise those that ask me against chasing others through transitions BECAUSE i originally played on ravenloft where warmage was a thing >.> and the nightmares i saw that class perform. But yes out in the open Area Denial is a valid tactic. Im just painfully used to seeing Transition campers and have seen it a few times here but jut accepted it as part of life.
