When your character gets captured and tortured by Drow while trying to save Refugees
Then gets accused of hating Refugees.
When your character stops a plot by Refugees to siege the city. The Refugees kill City members, and announce their desire to attack Cordor.
But the refugees are saints and your character is evil.
Okay.

Is this an IG thing or an RL thing?

I just reflect back on real life, or even medieval history and think 'would people just nod silently at each other when passing?' and when I realize the answer is a loud No, I get annoyed each time I see it.
People nod silently at me (IRL) in passing all the time.
Happens alot where I live too, but it's a small town and almost everyone knows who I am because I'm the only bartender who knows how to properly mix drinks
So, I live in
Palm Beach County, (we're not small, and if you want to get more specific, neither is
West Palm Beach).
The nod is practically a social obligation down here. You're walking downtown, and you pass someone's path coming out of the pizza shop- you nod as you both coordinate your walking to avoid the other's path.
Depending on the time of day and the inebriation level around you (the downtown strip has a lot of clubs with a lot of booze) failing to return a nod can be justification for a fight.

Where I'm from it's expected to look away when passing someone on the street or sitting opposite to someone in public transportation.
What grinds my gears is having alot of ideas for characters but no time to do anything about them.

Pretty sure you're from a place where the only interpersonal relations are in the sauna, arent you? XD

Lots of people nod here in Seattle, too.
It's not the lack of "realism" that bothers me so much as it is the laziness. Your character nods. Great. That gives me... what to work with? Come on, now. Give me a little more than that!
*nods*
vs.
*Peppermint scampers down the street, a brisk nod given as he hurries by.*
or
*Peppermint strolls lazily down the street, whistling a merry little tune. Spotting you along the way, he offers a friendly nod.*
Notice how the latter two paint more of a picture? Help me to envision your character, if only a little? Yeah. Much better.
I never macro an emote. I consider it a bad habit. No generic emote could possibly capture the image needed at any given time.

I understand this is a vent, but man... if I had money for every time this happened to my characters! It does suck to be on the receiving side of this RP, where people do not seem to give a single thought to
why something was done, or how you may have been working to lead X-darker forces to do something that was not bad for once; it is still IC, and their perceptions are their perceptions for a reason.

When my flying character can't attack an enemy because it's on a higher or lower ledge, or across a little stream with no walkmesh.
We need a flymesh.

Spending five minutes buffing up your allies and buffing up yourself, then realising that you cast Magical Vestment on your pyjamas and have no more castings left.
You would think I would learn.

Giving someone a nod as you pass is a very informal way to acknowledge their presence in a respectful way in quite a few areas.
Also, it's very quick to type. Hence why it's used in passing.
What grinds my gears is when my little dude there goes to thump on a group of mobs and every single one of them immediately hits him with a critical on their very first strike, killing him instantly. I had this happen twice. Yesterday.
