I did a long think and the only FOIG item I came up with is a shovel? Is the shovel gatekeeping your treasure chests?
This honestly reads like you sailed with terrible people. I haven't encountered anything like this in four years of playing sailors and either sailing with or being captain for almost all of the available player owned ships.

As for the book. Not exactly a bad idea. I know of a captain who put up stone pillars in public detailing how these chests work and holding lectures. You can write a book and have it added to the loot matrix by reaching out to the DMs, this way everyone can find your book in the random bookshelves and chests.

Between underdark, pirates, Cordor and Guldorand / Myon sailors, whenever I had sailing related questions IC or OOC they have been answered to the best of their abilities and I seriously appreciate how friendly the sailing community is with these information things, from the simple stuff to the most obscure things like the rituals.

I'm not sure how much I am even allowed to say in this thread but to put it simply some of the chests require you to go to FOIG location or have FOIG item from FOIG NPC to even open. So you might find 4 chests in a sail and not be able to open a single one because of the FOIG requirements, which only the captain and his besty knows, and they'll be sure to go open it without you and never say another word to you about it again. I won't say anything about the most recent people I sailed with, you can come to your own conclusions on that. And yeah, obviously there are some good crews, I've been fortunate enough to be part of them which is the only reason I am smart enough to know when I'm getting scammed.

But yeah, anything FOIG related to loot, should have a book found in bookshelves, it shouldn't be curated by select groups of players.

Chests are SO easy to open... My cousin (in elementary school) solved the "pacman" one first try.

There is no super sekret place we go to hide and open chests when yer not looking. No super sekret item either. (unless you think a shovel is the end all be all super secret of the server) If someone said that IC to you... You got fooled. At the most you "Might" have to open the chest in XYZ place using a ship that has XYZ equiped so you can get to said place.

Will a pirate do some shady deal like that? YES! Working as intended.

Ironically the pirates were the most fair group I've ever sailed with when it came to sharing loot. So was the Underdark. I always got at least a couple of tier 3 runes when I sailed with them. So this isn't a case of someone playing their alignment.

The fact that runics are a slot-machine time waster has always irked me. It serves to benefit, similar to sailing, those with more time than sense to dedicate to this game.

This is really it. The "20 minute runic runs" might be a reality for certain classes, but for my own experience, playing lower AC mundanes/martials, there's only really a couple of runics I can comfortably do. I really wish I could 20 minute them. 80% of the time I find the chests looted, or someones just ahead/behind me, because there aren't a huge amount of accessible runics for people not running inficasters and the sort.

I've had so much time wasted by clearing through to the end of a dungeon, just to find an empty space where the runic-shrine should be, or just an empty shrine with 3 coal placed into it. They're not fast runs, they're pretty time consuming and they are time that I could be spending on roleplay or just anything else.

And even then, finding a dungeon unlooted/unran, so many of the runic materials are just generally pretty useless and low value. T1 Djinn, T1 Chard - It reaches a point where I just start vendoring them.

I understand they'll be given more of a use -- At some point in the future. Whereas the recent nerfs to several runic-dungeons have happened in the present.

Perhaps it's also time to those long time promised procedural dungeons, just like pirate ships and the like are, so we stop bumping with others in dungeons constantly, sure, it might bring conflict to the table and all, but when it happens constantly it's more a nuisance than an opportunity
