Make House/Shop prices settable

We will file suggestions here that did not make the cut. Don't expect detailed responses, but the most common reasons are:

  • implementing the suggestion is impractical, or too much work for the gain
  • the suggestion is thematically against our design philosophy
  • the suggestion is too detailed/low-level
Keep your suggestions broad and focused on RP benefits, please, not detailed suggestions of how to fix everything.

Make House/Shop prices settable

Post by daemonshadow »

Seeing the rules reminder thread, something occurred to me.

When I put Lily's previous housing up for sale, I found that the only way I could set a price beyond base was to hold the quarter and announce the sale IC. If I had mechanically put it up for sale, I'd have only been able to make a fixed amount based on the quarter - an amount nowhere near what other players are willing to pay for housing.

I propose that players be given a price-setting dialog that allows them to mechanically put their quarter up for sale at a specified price - thus making the house available to others for purchase, but allowing the player to profit and play the market.

Had I had this option at the time, I would have taken that approach rather than putting it up for auction over numerous real days. As it currently stands, if I buy an abandoned quarter for 14,000, I can only make 14,000 in the sale of the quarter later on unless I'm able to convince another player to buy it in a narrow timeframe while I'm online - logistically difficult or impossible without metagaming. I also can't purchase another house during this time unless I lose out on the profit and RP of auctioning the house - making me liable to lose the option of the other I might have my eye on.
I don't know about you, between and bicycles make me want to do natural things.
