Make New Slaves RPable

So this is what it's like to roll up a new slave character in Andunor.

After playing a slave character the last few days I find it obnoxious and anti-immersive that I have to AFK the Hub for hours on end so I can join the RP (I know I'm not the only one - you can find AFK slaves in the Hub all the time trying to learn undercommon).

You wouldn't know it, but a fight (and subsequent murder) even took place within all that.

I know in the past that gnolls were given Undercommon so they can too can RP with the rest of the player base, so there's a precedent in place.

Please! Let slaves be part of the fun. We might see more of them as a result.

Just make Undercommon a minor gift selectable for Slaves. Then everyone can be happy. I presume the idea is they don't want people making slaves for free Undercommon, but like.... hahahaa outcast. Seriously, give it to em for free IMO.

What if they were given partial undercommon knowledge at creation (like 50% or more) so they can understand words part of, but not all of the time. That way it lends towards the idea of them having been exposed to the language a bit through the slave traders that captured them perhaps.

I do agree with pointing out the pain around this. The way it is now for them, they are likely to learn about fighting in the hub faster than they learn undercommon.

Making it a gift would compete with gift of tongues, which is a superior gift in all other aspects, though if it were adjusted down in ECL I think some people might take it.

Having them start with a large percentage of learned undercommon might be really cool (especially if they came with a translation book so newbies could get started on figuring out the mechanic of language learning too).

Incidentally - has anyone ever tried just making an outcast and then visiting the slave camper right away? For science?

At the end of the day I just find it baffling that every new character in Andunor can speak undercommon except one kind, leading to peculiar scenarios where everyone has to go out of their way, suspend their character's habits, just to include nearby slave player.

There's no reason right now to start as a slave at level 3 instead of just rolling an outcast, silently grinding to 5 and then talking to the clamper to become a slave. In fact, it saves you a lot of OOC trouble because you can actually understand the RP around you.

Slaves should probably be given undercommon, yeah.

I haven't played a slave but can't they be freed eventually? I assumed an outcast will always be an outcast but if you start a slave you could eventually operate on the surface if you wished.

Correct, but at the same time I believe if an outcast takes the collar then does the same process to get it removed they will also escape their outcast tag. Someone need to confirm that, but I've heard that a few times.

At the same time, I feel the outcast tag hardly means much. Sure, they can't take surface writs, but why would you want to over the UD writs and grind?

That sounds like an oversight that should be fixed to me. I can't imagine it's intentional that you could shed outcast status by being a slave for a while.

I can't say whether outcast means anything or not. Now that people know you are one in cities I feel like they are less welcome but I only see what I see.

I can get where your coming from, but at the same time your playing a slave.. not someone that is native to andunor so i can also understand the decision to not give slaves undercommon.

Dont mean to be cruel or mean/what have you, but whats keeping you from 'joining in', you can't understand undercommon ok, but couldnt you just emote that fact then try to find someone in the area that looks somewhat open to chit-chat(considering you dont know the trade-tongue.. maybe human characters first?)

Can slaves start in Sibayad or Sencliff?

Slavery as a concept on Arelith needs to be less mechanical and more oriented towards OOC consent and the ability for the slave to have creative license in escape or remaining in bondage.

They need their own special writs.

There needs to be surface and UD support for them.

The infinity slave-caller nonsense should be yeeted.

They should have more quarters and in pro-slave societies there should be slave quarters that do not open until they are occupied.

It should be FUN.
