Isn't Masterly steel a bit overly hard to make for just 2 extra points of damage?

Its a trade-off.

The masterly steel needs silver, which is so plentiful its gold value has crashed.

The greensteel needs arjale, which is actually fairly rare.

A few extra craft points to render the masterly steel recipe is not unreasonable given this context.

Its a bad one though, For 2 dmg its easier to wait 3 more lvls and jump into green or damask.

Sure... assuming you already have access to arjale or greensteel already. M steel is to cover that time where you don't find any arjale. I've brought a PC from 2 to 20 in two weeks before and never ran across an arjale vein. So M steel does have a purpose. Its useful when you can't find or buy the material for that greensteel and don't feel like waiting.
