Could familiars be placed on a cooldown when they are un-summoned? Like Druids animal companions.

Pperhaps familiars should be alignment locked as i dont think we should see a Faerie Dragon traveling C.E. character, Likewise a Hell Hound with L.G character.

Side Suggestion - (apologies), i dont currently play a True Flame but i have seen a few comments and suggestions on them in the past, perhaps give them their own Familiar line that levels and scales with them upto a certain level to assist them with writs.

As for anything related to better custom familars, I'd love it to happen of course, but last time this was attempted it went so spectacularly wrong, I'm not keen to see it tackled again at the moment (Rejected for that part)
