Disappearing Letters

Something I have noticed has happened for quite a bit now is that when you open your quarter door and have a full inventory a weird phenomenon happens, where you drop the letter item's size worth of items from your inventory.
However, despite this the letter always vanishes. And this is tragic. I've lost so many letters due to this, and I can never know who sent them, or what was in them. D:
