Ranger Improved TWF on archer path

Taking the feat on any class level (ranger or another class) after you have enough ranger levels to earn it for free if you were not on the archer path eats the feat slot and you get nothing.
I'm assuming this was put in to counteract the archer path picking it up for free at ranger 9 but the execution seems to have a bit of unintended side effects.
This was on the PGCC where I was just messing around with a less optimal switch hitter.
