Druids Should Be Able to Send AE'd Animals to "Wander Off"

The unique ability that Rangers possess to be able to release dominated animals from Animal Empathy and have them "Wander Off" safely should be extended to Druids as well. I see no reason why the Druid should have to release an innocent animal for it to potentially cause harm, or be killed itself.
This feature for Rangers is wonderful and it creates great RP. But it simply makes no sense to me that a Druid would not be able to do the same thing.
Thank you for reading and considering!

Rangers do not possess such ability.
Only animals that were originally neutral wander off. Finding safe spot to unleash your displa... I mean safely release your dominated rat is part of the job.
In case of originally neutral animals, you have one or two rounds to apply empathy again and then they poof.

rangers do have it, but it's not an "ability", it's closer to engine limitations. the multiple animal thing shunts them into the henchman slot, which is what causes them to "wander off". meanwhile a single animal empathy'd target is actually dominated, instead, and thus will retain their faction status from before you empathy'd them.

I played ranger beastmaster extensively.
The animal will only wander off if it was originally neutral. It doesn't matter into which slot it went. If they both were originally blue they'll both wander off. Both dominated and henchman animal.
Most likely it is arelith script that was added somewhere around 2018, right before EE switch.

It would be so nice to be able to make them wander away.

It would also be nice to not have to re aply the AE every few rounds as it is with rangers.
Once a ranger has their second AE critter they will both follow indefinitely, whereas a Druid will keep loosing control. seems the wrong way around to me.

That's likely because druids have elemental swarm and summoning spells. All of them have duration of 24 hours. Having two henchmen on top would be just ridiculous.

If there was a way to make it so the druid AE set hostile animals to neutral without adding them to the party, it would be a lot more friendly/realistic/helpful than "hello deer, come fight a dragon with me" or "sorry I only spoke to one bear, that's my limit, feel free to kill all the others

"

I forget if this is Druid-specific or just tied to Animal Empathy as a whole, but if you have enough AE ranks then most animals will just be neutral by default and (unlike with other characters) won't ever turn hostile to you even if you approach them (although obviously they will if you attach them). I'm reasonably sure that's also extended to the whole party.

That is true, such effect exists, the effect is tied to AE, BUT it is not extended to the whole party.
A classic example is a high AE ranger with a dominated animal. You see a blue bear, you walk by, and the bear doesn't care.
But, the moment the animal passes by the bear gets angry and turns hostile. The checks seems to be done individually.
Also many creatures start out hostile and are never neutral by default.

Ooh, my bad then - definitely think it makes sense for that to be expanded to party function.

Oh yeah, I wasn't suggesting giving them two pets, just giving them the side effect of the henchmanification, the not having to worry about your pet going hostile mid fight, or wandering off to eat a friendly NPC while you are shopping.

Like I said, "wander off" only works for initially neutral animals. And it is highly possible that druids already have this function. Try dominating and releasing a neutral (blue) animal and see what happens in 2 rounds.
