Ship journeys - more tedious than necessary

I understand that one wants to impose the sense of a long journey at sea when I rent a ship from Brogendstein to Skal, but standing still on a ship map for 20 minutes (and counting), the monotony only broken by the occasional monster attack that is resolved in matter of seconds, feels a tad excessive on the side of "realism". Especially when I can hop from Cordor to the Crows nest, to Wharftown, to Brog and to Guldorand in a few clicks.
I recommend drastically cutting travel time for rented ships. My Alestorm playlist is only so long.

It is by design that it can take an hour+ to get to Skal.

But why? What does it add? Except frustration and boredom?

It adds frustration to go back. You're not supposed to go back after you leave.

Plus the very real window of time for other people, like pirates, to potentially find you and board you...

Say what you will about Skal but I'm not sure why a journey from Crow's Nest to Cordor should take so long if Laurick can get me there in a flash, are the boat sizes and speeds different?

Laurick is actually the incarnation of Valkur. He figured that the best way to piss Umberlee off is to provide instant, 100% safe sea transit.

This is basically the /thread.
Also, why are you sailing alone on a boat? Bring some people and RP and go to Kholingen or Sencliff or Blackfin, there's tons of options for areas that aren't populated by low level adventurers who probably don't need to run into a character who can mash the sea encounters in a matter of seconds.

If you are really not supposed to go back, then it would be better to disable the possibility all together.
As for why my character was sailing alone, there are several reason. One is the lack of friends that specialize in conjuration. An other was that I have only a limited amount of time to play each given day, and did not find anyone in close vicinity for the trip.
And third and most important; because it made sense for my character to return to his home when he had found what he set out for a few ig months earlier, and wanted to make it back before the sea froze.
Of course, he would eventually leave Skal permanentely too when he was done exploring the place, his friends had also left, and his presence there would no longer offer me or other players any enjoyment. Just because he can handle two slavers, a couple of goblins or a harpy does not make him an epic, if that was your assumption.
My point was: one hour of waiting on a ship map feels more like punishment for not knowing a conjurer rather than enhancement of IG depth and experience.

One hour of waiting refers to In-game time or RL time?
If it's RL time, i seconded that it's completely BS
If it's In-game time, come-on it's just a 6minutes? Like said, it's also supposed for the RP possibility of pirates etc. Then again, what is 6 minutes of waiting when a usual RP / walking from place to place, usually takes far more than just that 6 minutes. And yes, i too only have limited time of playing but i don't feel that 6 minutes is that much of a punishment since i can always spend that time, doing something esle that usually need me to be fixed on spot, if there's nothing to do.

It's Real Time. I have only tried to take a ship 3 times to Skal and noticed it seemed to take between 40-60 RL minutes. Not sure if there is a set time, but it was somewhere around there.

One hour RL time. I hope I did not come across as one that would complain about six minutes.
He did eventually have a Wilson-esque conversation with his animal companion, but even that lost it's flair after about 10 minutes.

Now, you've my support. I salute you for able to endure that one-hour.
*Raise up a red flag to protest*
Edit : 1 hour of real life time. Holy crap, even i don't spaced out for 1 hour real-life time. 15minutes is my maximum tolerated time.
Edit #2 : I sleep for usually, 6 hours per day. Work 8hrs +/- per day. Eating / Reading / Miscellaneous 6hrs per day. Left with maybe 4 hours of gaming time. 1 Hour spend on AFK status. Left 3 hours. Did i just spend 25% of my leisure time on doing nothing

Naval content is PvP content. Its to allow a reasonably long enough window for other vessels to engage you. Its basically a queue time. With how sporadic the boats are used, the windows have to be longish for the system to work at all.

If anything, Laurick's ferries are too convenient - not the other way around. I'd love to spend more time in Arelith's harbours/ports, figuring out who's going to ferry me to Brogendenstein today.
(would just love more mariner-style/maritime flavour in general. Arelith's an archipelago. it should be all about ships ships ships ships)
