Because some players would love to have DM events occur around them, and others really would prefer not to, perhaps it would be helpful to add a tag similar to the mentor and 'DM help wanted' tags to indicate interest in events?

Whilst I am certainly not against people requesting events, I'm not sure I like the idea of players opting out of events - at least no more than is possible already. If you don't want to be part of an event, move your character away.
Event requests can be sent over PMs, are also not so common that I feel we need an entire new system for them. So moving this to rejected.
