Bonus Spellslots stealing all spells tied to that circle

When you equip something which gives you bonus spellslots normally if you take it off you lose only the bonus spellslots correct? At least that is how I understand it to work on Cleric/Druid/Wizard. However, when my Shaman unequips their spellslot boosting staff they just lose two spells every...single...time that they remove it. If I were to take it off six times I would lose all of my spells in a single level.

I wanted to know if this is an intentional weakness built in to discourage people from taking off their magic sticks in favor of bows and swords or if it is a bug.

If it is intentional does anyone have any good suggestions for getting around the issue aside from waiting to take off the staff until I have used all of the spells tied to the bonus slots?

That's just how bonus spell slots work for spontaneous casters I'm afraid, no way to work around it except not taking off the gear with the bonus slot.

I do not think loosing spell slots for equipping the item and then removing it is intended behaviour. Sure, the first time you do it, but every time?

Fun fact, if you polymorph with bonus spell slot items, you loose a spell slot for every bonus slot item you had. This is a hardcoded bug and no way around that. Thus when I shapeshift on my Sorc, I unequip all my bonus slot items first.

But yes. Spontaneous casters definitely get the short end of the stick with bonus spell slot use. Spellbook casters can simpy put the spells they want to cast, buffs etc on the bonus slots, then unequip the item and lose nothing. Spontaneous casters lose the spell slots from their total pool of spells they can cast, so you really do not want to be switching your items around after resting.

On positive side, we can be flexible how we use our slots. Never any wasted slots for buffs you prepared but turned out to not needing.
