Ball Lightning Modification

TL:DR First: Upgrade Ball Lightning (Sorc/Wiz 5) to mirror firebrand with a smaller AoE.
Reasoning: I love lightning spells. A lot. Enough to take them even though they're a suboptimal choice, especially when if there are enough enemies on screen a chain lightning spell can continue leaping from enemy to enemy, before leaping back across the corpses that are spawning and destroying all the loot. >.> (*Clears all chain lightning spell slots before going to Light Keep, now*)
But Ball Lightning compared to firebrand, same school, same level, same save is absolutely inferior on such a noticeable level that I feel my character would have to be unintelligent to use it.
I can hit an entire screen full of monsters for 15d6 damage EACH with firebrand.
EDIT: WHOOPS. Remembered wrong! I can only hit a single monster for 15d6 with Ball Lightning. Not quite as crappy, but still awful in comparison.
I love lightning spells. They look amazing, they're fun. But please? Pretty please some love for the red-headed bastard step-sibling of firebrand?
