Town Criers
Town criers are a neat idea that have some terrible execution.
I'd like to see a max limit of two RL days placed on how long they can be paid to bark something, because I've seen the same message being played for two weeks in a row and that doesn't really bring anything positive to the experience. If you're going to pay them to say mean things you should at least have to put more effort into upkeeping that than a player shop.
I'd also like the option to buy the crier out to stop saying one of their messages.

Re: Town Criers
I've never interacted with them (past seeing their messages).
I'm assuming that there isn't a way you could bribe/intimidate/persuade the crier to tell you who decided to paid them to shout out a particular message?

Re: Town Criers
I think even just moving that one town crier in Guld to a less prominent location would go a long way.
The beautiful square outside the Eagle tavern is one of the most attractive locations for RP in the city. It's unbelievably distracting having the town crier repeat the same 2-3 lines over and over, even more so when those lines are essentially just poorly disguised slander.

I don't really think people should be able to buy out town criers. That'd just turn into people who get mad at slander an easy way to silence it.
I think the crier system is a bit unfriendly to actually understand what you're doing because the text menu is a bit confusing.
The only thing I'd like to see done is a limit on maximum time (but enough to advertise something for a few real life days) and a cooldown in real life time between messages of something like 12 or so RL hours.)
They are in my opinion under appreciated for both a flashy way to advertise a player event and to add to the atmosphere of crowded thoroughfares.
I actually wish the Brogendenstein and Bendir Dale criers were rooted in place in their RP hubs so they could be used for the same purpose.
Guldorand, Andunor, and Cordor are the only places that really have them. I'd love to see them improved in the above two and added to places like Sibayad, Sencliff, and so forth.

Re: Town Criers
I think that many of the issues experienced with Town Criers would be solved if they automatically added ‘This message from <character’s true name>: <your message>’
RP only starts at 30 if you're a coward.

Re: Town Criers
Town criers are great. They truly represent the atmosphere of the settlement in every given time. You can hear them out for a few RL days and get a lot of idea about the kind of dynamics between the highly active figures in a settlement like Cordor/Guld.
Given the fact they are used for advertising shops and slandering people and events, if there was an option to buy them off, they'd probably just stand silent most of the time so that's probably not a good idea. People shouldnt get rid of the slender about them too easily. Message boards are nice, but you got to sign your name on those, or your message will be considered troll IC and mostly ignored. Town criers are effective for that they dont require you to sign your name and the lack of signature on your slandering post is irrelevant because someone's shouting it... and I like it that way, personally.

This makes a lot of sense and I agree with this part. I get it that some characters deserve a LOT of slander, and are involved in so much stuff that slander is inescapable (kudos to them) but the time frame in which town criers will drag and stretch the 'slender period' or advertise your shop should have increasingly higher upkeep when done by the same person, so you'd have to pay more gold over time if you dont take a break, and then you'd have to find other characters to pay criers for you, etc etc. This would be more dynamic.Nevrus wrote: Sun Mar 28, 2021 5:07 am because I've seen the same message being played for two weeks in a row and that doesn't really bring anything positive to the experience. Re: Town Criers
A town crier in Sibayad and Sencliff would be nice!
