Small tribal warrior skin color, heads and weapons

This is really 3 separate bugs, but the first is really straightforward, so I'll just write it up here: since the battleaxe is a medium weapon, small races can't really dual wield it, so even though I can see in the combat log that they mechanically are attacking with both weapons, it will visually be represented as if they are twohanding the battleaxe with the handaxe clipping inside it, flying about in a weird sideways manner during attacks.
Description
==========
When playing as a svirfneblin and calling the tribal warriors, they'll start out looking like surface gnomes and later change both heads and skin color. When the switch happens, the males can end up without a head, but not always (the 3rd bug).
Steps to reproduce
----------------------------
1: Make a svirf tribal barbarian and summon them. Observe their mysterious skin color.
2: Park them somewhere and walk far enough away that you cannot see them
3: Return to find them with different heads and your skin and hair color and sometimes headless (so far only the males end up without a head).
Expected result
-----------------------
Tribal warriors all have heads and share your skin and hair color right away.
Actual result
-------------------
Tribal warriors have the default skin color and red hair. They also start out having heads. If you get far enough away from them, they'll change to your skin and hair color, but the males may end up without a head.
Screenshot(s)
--------------------
Observe the surface gnome imposters

I return to find two svirfneblins

One of the times the males lost their heads

Notes
---------
I thought at first the switch was on a delay of some sort, but I tried standing around for 10 minutes and they kept their surface color. Later I made some new ones and parked them, walked far enough away that the models fade away and then they had changed right away (presumably being visually obstructed could do it too, I assume it's the models fading away that's relevant).
An alternative theory is that it is some kind of quantum mechanical effect where simply observing them collapses their svirfneblin transmogryphying function. That or they have taken Epic Stage Dresser and just had an emergency makeup session.
