The fighter update for weapons and armor did a pretty good job of approximating the Weapon Mastery and Armor Mastery of the Pathfinder RPG's Fighter. Let's add another:

Bravery (Ex)
Starting at 2nd level, a fighter gains a +1 bonus on Will saves against fear. This bonus increases by +1 for every four levels beyond 2nd.

So, at 2nd, and then 6th, 10th, etc., the fighter gets a fear save bonus, up to +7 at level 30.

Fighters are the front line of a party, hardness to battle reflect their hearts being forged by combat. The Bravery ability reflects this, and helps keep them at the front of the line where they need to be.
