Minogon Plant: Ballista Autotarget (NPC)

Previously when I visited the plant, that thing was shut off. Not this time....

The npc that is supposed to represent automated defenses deals 92-106 magical damage by pretty much existing.

No roll for any sort of defense (reflex/Ac, for example), and no visual indication of the shot. It also appear to be shooting far beyond usual sight range.

So you appear and it starts plinking your HP from somewhere.

Would be nice to have a visual indication of direction of the shot, at least. Or ability to dodge it. Also, if it is a ballista, normally you'd expect physical damage. For magic, there should be some sort of indication (some sort of blue ray, maybe?), and there's nothing, pretty much.

I always viewed the Mingoon Plant as Arelith's omage to the infamous Tomb of Horrors adventure module.
It can be harsh, unfair, unforgiving, actively misleading, characters can instantly die there ...because reasons.

I find that to be a part of its appeal TBH

The first two times I visited it, it was laughably easy. As in character wrecked everything and stood scratching head - "why are people afraid of this place?".

For tomb of horrors homage, you'd kinda need to add a lot of way more terrifying stuff into it.

Oh, right, and that ballista apparently bypasses godsave.

So. Trying to shapeshift into iron golem does not work against the all-seeing turret, as apparently magic damage ignores iron golem form's supposed magic immunity and it keeps shooting from beyond visual range at 92-106 damage per shot.

The turret also only targets players, and does not actually target anything else, despite warning sign saying the opposite.

Also, the mages do not spawn for me. Fun.

Guess I'll need to hire a HP sponge. Or try it again later.

This was always one of my favorite dungeons though most people hate it. I've not had a character/group that was able to go there in a long time however but I don't remember any updates to it announced. The character I always did it on had a way to get past that, shut it down, and let the rest of the group come through. There was a way to get around it is all I'm saying, this could be no longer the case however.

If only we had more Tomb of Horrors and Tomb of Annihilation types of epic dungeons on Arelith.

I have also found that most dungeons don't scale well with a larger party, and so with enough people, everything can be easily overcome. That's a bit of a shame, as larger parties take away the danger of dungeon crawling, and thus the fun is reduced as well.

Tomb of Horrors is fine, but this is not "Tomb Of Horrors", it is just broken. I've posted more feedback here:

In this area rather than fighting traps, you are fighting interesting object placement, pathfinding, and enemies with key items not spawning.
