Favored Souls and Scroll Impotence

Post by Paint »

Description
==========

Essentially, while I've been messing around with a favored soul, I've noticed that I need lore to use scrolls that are on my class spell list. I thought maybe it's just because those scrolls haven't been updated, but it seems to be every scroll. All of 'em. If a scroll has a lore requirement to use normally, a Favored Soul seems to need lore to use that scroll at all. On their class list or otherwise.

Steps to reproduce
----------------------------

Roll up a Favored Soul, don't invest any points into lore, then go around and find a scroll of a spell that should be on the favored soul's class spell list.

Expected result
-----------------------

You should be able to cast the spell if you meet the normal scroll requirements as described on the wiki:
It's a scroll that belongs to one of the character's class spell lists, and they have access to a spell level that's at least half, rounded up, of the spell level at which the spell on the scroll appears in their spell list, and the relevant primary casting ability modifier for that class matches or exceeds that spell level.
This seems to be the case with scrolls being used by other classes from my general experience, but my other spellcasters are a wizard and a shaman, so ymmv.

Actual result
-------------------
Unless you have high enough lore, you just can't cast from scrolls. It doesn't matter whether or not the spell is of a level you can currently cast or not.

Misc Notes
----------------
I had a hypothesis that casting from scrolls was tied to the wrong casting stat for favored souls for some reason, so in the screenshot above, you can see I pumped up my wisdom quite a bit to see if that'd change anything. It didn't, so I really don't know what it is. Shrug. I've also tried putting scrolls into scroll cases and taking them back out to see if that'd do anything since that's been a thing recently, but no luck.

Since Lore is sort of a must-have skill for a lot of classes, this is mostly affecting early-game QoL, when you might be getting some lucky scroll-drops from enemies in dungeons that could really help you out that you won't be able to use.

Which Server(s)?
------------------------
I've noticed this on PGCC and Main. It's hilarious, because on PGCC I was literally crafting scrolls that I couldn't use.

All vendor and loot scrolls need to be updated. I've noticed this too, and right now only player crafted scrolls respect the new classes.

The scrolls in that screenshot were player-crafted, so it seems to be affecting player-crafted scrolls as well specifically for Favored Soul. Why? I don't know.

Oh the screenshot wasn't showing until now for me. In this case the scrolls may just be identical to vendor ones, with the exception of the description. In that case we have no idea how many spell scrolls might be affected. But either way, it's clearly an oversight.

I only feel bad for whoever has to comb through all of those scrolls 😯

A fix should be live next reset. Please test and let me know if everything is working as intended :)

I haven't had a chance to cast a high-level scroll on live, but it -does- appear that at least the lore error is gone. Highlighting those scrolls no longer shows red, too.

I'll update if casting from a high spell level scroll doesn't work.

Edit:

This evidence is anecdotal since I've tested one scroll, but it cost me six grand and this character isn't full level yet >:(, but scrolls appear to be working as intended now. Thanks!
