Coffee crafting's not worth it.

Whoever added glass bottles to the recipie has made this craft far too expensive compared to just buying the coffee from bars.
Is there some reason they can't reuse the bottles the water came in or something?

One of my favorite things about the vial of preserved blood recipe is that you get a glass bottle in return to simulate pouring the catalyst into the bottle of blood, and therefore having an empty bottle after.

Maybe would be neat to just get your bottle back after you drink the coffee.

Recycle, reduce, reuse!

Yeah. I'd had a little stockpile built up, just making coffee as I needed it.

Then suddenly it started requiring bottles to make.

I gave away over a hundred coffee beans shortly after that.

Cheap glass bottles can be obtained from loot...occasionally

And coffee is really cheap from bars, unless the crafted version give more rest? I mean, it should right?

I like the giant strength vs bulls potion. Hope other potion and foods have a bit more buff to it.

it's exactly the same as bar bought coffee, thus why it's not worth crafting it over buying the coffee at the bar.
I feel that it should go back to just needing the water and beans.

Also I think I got those beans, found out about the change when I went to process them.

A discussion is being had over this now. I'd be interested to hear general opinion on it.
Should we
* Just remove the bottles
*Keep the bottles, but make it give more coffee?/Lessen the bottle count? (1 bottle for the recipe? Or maybe 5 bottles but makes 10 coffee?)
*Keep the bottles but make the coffee far stronger than NPC coffee?

Curious to hear opinions on this.

I think it's always good to have player-made items that you can't buy out of an NPC shop. Makes it more unique.

I'd be the most content if the bottles were removed entirely, in my opinion you have a bottle already with the water.

What I would like though if it's possible is that it's a stronger brew since it's essentially making black coffee, no milk and sugar.
Numbers wise perhaps make it +10 rest instead of the normal +5?

Stronger coffee would definitely incentize people to actually go through the trouble of crafting over using the store bought. But it still might need to output more, as coffee beans right now are extremely rare.

The solution here is obviously removing the NPC store coffee and forcing all sources of coffee to be crafted.

That has been considered but frankly the very thought of taking away players coffee makes me want to run away screaming. I mean, the stuff with summons? That'd be nothing compared.
It's the mages dude. I'm telling ya, if I take away the coffee? The world buurrrrrnnnss....

No, mages need alcohol to bring down the rest meter. Melee is the one that needs coffee to bring up the rest meter since so many buffs are hours/level.

As a caster who rides the lightning of -5% rest to 5% rest, let me tell you, I use both alcohol and coffee and I use them frequently. Coffee going from 8gp to 500gp over night to cover crafting costs, however, sounds like a nightmarish hellscape. One in which I do not wish to exist.

Edit:
That being said, I think most players on arelith overprice things a lot so maybe I'm being dramatic.

It's not just price it's availability. Finding what you need in shops is difficult especially with consumables. 3 out of 5 shops seem to be filled with dungeon junk or books and very few reliably cater to specific needs.

Please do not make everything of any usefulness crafted only.

Can I just say this comment is the absolute winner and I have no idea how you all passed it.

I would vote for:

1, make ingredients available from shops, sugar, spice, flour just like berry, nut, fruit, from farmer npc. It is not an expensive drink so no reason to make it hard to craft.

2, let crafted coffee become slightly stronger is very desirable, people who do not craft do not loose anything, yet those who can craft will be encouraged to make them

1) Remove the bottles.

2) Put the bottles on a different new recipe that produces more/different coffee (potentially stronger or lightweight idk) .

Espresso:

1x coffee
1x water
1x glass bottle

+25% rest
+1 reflex save
-40% rest after 1 real life hour
-3 reflex save after 1 real life hour

No but seriously coffee should be a temporary sticking plaster and not a staple of adventurers. (Tbh similarly alcohol should give a malus to reflex for drunkenness).
