Generated Magical Item Loot Feedback

OK, I like this in general and what I'd like to talk about is not really a big deal, but...

...am I the only one who keeps getting loot dorps like this
Image
immediately thinking that "if only the +1 skills weren't there this might have actually been somewhat useful?". I mean... do we even need the +1 skill property on items at all? Why not simply have only +2 skill properties both as a basin option and on generated loot when it's clearly the desired thing that everybody wants for their optimized gear?

I actually have it tailor favourably to your top skills and it flips a coin, it's about as fair as it gets without being a handout.

I think while this item looks bad to a higher level it is a valid stand in for levelling characters and also for those not able to find someone to use basins.

Having to work a bit more for a +2 skill set for what you have shown is not a bad thing, it encourages inter character discussions about who can make such things and makes them valuable beyond "hey, use up this rune please".

On the topic of Enchanting gear however, time will tell.

+1 skill are useful in dweomercrafting if you want to get the most out of your gear.

Not essential, so it wouldn't be a huge deal to lose it, as long as existing gear retains it - but they're certainly very useful often if you know dweomercrafting well.

It would be nice if items dropped were limited to 1 skill bonus of up to +2.

This is because items with more skills are just far less desirable even for a mid-game level 15-20 character who can just call any wizard or sorcerer to make them a soft 5% item for about 10k gold these days. The only time I would use a loot item over a basin item made with 10k gold is when the loot item has just +2 discipline on it, then 2 stats and runic property (which is not a particularly rare drop for the record). When soft 5% items with +2 skill x4 and 2 stats are so cheap, I dont think there's ever any point in loot items with more than 1 skill on them. My two cents.

If the item in question with +1s skills on it already has a stat or two, then it's no longer basin-viable cause to roll it for hard 5%, and if it doesnt have stats on it, then any enchanter can make such item for 2 digits of gp.

For clarity, my comment was only on the bit about removing +1 from dweomercrafting entirely, I've not commented on the generated magical loot.

The generated magical loot is generally worthless unless it has two attributes you need plus a rune and you're lucky for it to have a couple decent +2 skills. Which usually means having to solo to get it, and rolling really lucky. A +2 disc +2 spot +1 str + 1 con with a rune ring is a pretty great loot item, the chances of getting on in a party are slim to non existent. And given that leveling from 1-20 takes barely any time, by the time you start finding the semi-useful stuff you can afford to just make actually good stuff.

It is always kind of funny finding a magical loot item that gives +1 int and +1 wisdom with no runes and one or more +1 skill and wondering who would ever use it.

Unless you lack dweomercrafting tier 3 and have to find someone else to make the good stuff for you.

Oh gotcha. Yeah I dont see any reason why anyone in their right mind would remove +1 skill bonus from the basin. That's not going to happen, probably.

Sure, the +1 skill porperty basin option is meaningful for 5% setups that can be guaranteed with a god save.

I also get the idea that generated magical loot items were never intended to be straight up handouts, but the +1 skill properties are practially detrimental here as the generated item would have almost always been much more useful even with no properties being generated in the slots whatsoever.

Furthermore, it's true that such items might still be useful to lower level characters, but:
a) the time window during the character's level progression when this is true is extremely narrow. We're talking about this item being useful to someone for maybe a couple of RL days before they start looking for a replacement.
b) these items generally spawn in epic dungeons, so it's very unlikely that the low lvl characters who could have used them would find them themselves anyway.
