Katana into a 18-20 threat range

I figure here's my chance to take a shot, as it were.
I've been wracking my brain about making a eastern themed character that uses the katana instead of the nodachi and I've heard only a few cases.
+It can work with parry
+Small races can use it like a nodachi currently
In the future though, Monkey Grip will allow them to just use nodachis.
+You can dual wield with it
In every other case, nodachi is just better.
It has a nicer animation for the fantasy of being a samurai.
It has 2 crafted options that are both extremely good and have custom vfx.
Almost everywhere the Katana is given as a weapon prof, the nodachi is also there
I think if Katana was changed to 18-20, it would give the fantasy of doing swift and killing cuts that the Samurai are associated for. With it requiring exotic prof for most, people would still gravitate towards scimitar. And if nothing else, this would make katana a much more exciting weapon to rival the nodachi.
Perhaps damage could be lowered to 1d8 to match it's western counterpart?
Thanks for considering!
