Crafting: Static points, normal DCs

In light of the fact that leveling up any kind of merchant is hell, perhaps leveling(ah the puns) the playing field might make things a bit more fair.
A lvl 1 with 10 STR that decides to take blacksmithing because he likes playing with shiny things should not miraculously be able to swing his hammer that much more at lvl 20 if his strength is still 10. Logic dictates that he can swing for the same amount of time regardless.
So my suggestion:
Separate crafting points into crafting and trade points.
Start with 50(?) crafting points and use them to make things... like now.
But keep that number static permanently.(currently it rises with level, and that makes no sense.)
Have the player gain trade points via level up like the current system. Keep the DCs like they are now, so the character still gets better at crafting over time. Trade points will work like the trade skills do now in regards to crafting DCs.
In this way, lowbie crafters get a leg up and can be competent crafters without having to grind like crazy to get better at their trade. Better crafters can, in turn, hire lowbies with nothing to do (like apprentices) to throw 20s at the crafting process to speed it along a little faster.
In this sense, it is more advantageous for a lvl 30 smith to have apprentices because each apprentice has 50 craft points to work with and they themselves have 50 points... rather than a lone smith with 50+ points ignoring lowbie crafters because they have ten and can't contribute meaningfully.
Even better, if xp was added to crafting, this would make crafting a more alluring idea as a means of leveling than mindlessly grinding.
