Fishing with a Pike (Maelstrom)

Hello.
I just noticed that there is an option to put a hook and a bait on my Maelstrom pike. Since it's such a difficult to obtain item and integral for my character's story I'd thought to ask before trying:
Is it intentional or do I risk bugging weapon if I put a hook on it?
Do I risk breaking the item like a basic fishing pole if I fish with it?
