Im not sure if its a bug so I'm posting it here first, but when I initially use dirge of awakening (lv. 8 bard/8 dirge currently) it creates zombie brutes. Beefy boys that are very useful. If they happen to die and or get unsummoned by a spell an enemy uses, after the CD is over and I use it again before I rest it only summons base zombies...which are useless. Is this working as intended or am I missing something? You'd think I'd just always get the brutes but I'm not sure.

I have greater spell foci necro also, if thats a key bit on info. Thanks for any insight!

It's a little broken. If you cast from a scroll or use a wand or potion your undead caster level is lowered (which is a bug) and you get the junk undead. You need to cast a spell from your bard spellbook before using dirge of awakening and that will reset your caster level and should give you the correct level undead.

I reported it months ago but it's still not working correctly though it's usable if you can remember to work around it. Just cast a buff on yourself before using awakening.

Oooh okay thank you!! So any spell will do? Just cast even a cantrip, and it'll reset my broken caster level and give me the good undead again?

I can't guarantee a cantrip (I just don't think I tested that) but level one and up spells seem to work for me

Following up on this, the casting of a spell before using Dirge of Awakening indeed does still work. And a cantrip is good enough to trigger it as well. Thank you so much for this. Saved me a lot of needless resting. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

I wish I read this first. I leveled and used got a low level thought I did something wrong, releveled, was tired, then did something wrong a bunch of times. Did a whole bunch of resting, went to bed, finally worked in the morning.

I'll give the fix another try soon.
Don't let me forget about it <.<
