Exceeding UMD for Armor/Items

I was under the impression that you could equip UMD/CHA gear in order to meet the requirements for armor, equip that armor, remove the UMD/CHA items and (so long as you don't change armor appearance) continue to wear the armor. When I try this and log or transition my character is left naked.

Is there a trick I don't know about?

Is this kosher?

Changing servers, the same as logging in, checks your equipment for 'validity' to determine if you're able to wear them properly or not. They are working as intended in this case.

The answer is, it depends.

The way UMD works is that every item has an associated UMD check based on value and what you're trying to emulate: Class, Race, Alignment.

When you swap a server, it checks the base UMD value here + 5 points for Arelith. It does not check the Arelith custom UMD values. https://nwn.fandom.com/wiki/Use_magic_device

So for example, on a paladin, I would buff up to 70 UMD in order to equip Bulwark Plate. This has a value of 136,292 gold, putting it under the Class Emulation DC of 20 + 5. With 25 hard UMD, you don't unequip on transition.
