I've created two PCs. Both shield dwarves with +0 ECL from the start and got them some gifts and awards, what we do have in the end:

1. PC-1 has +2 ECL from gifts. +2 ECL total.
2. PC-2 has +2 ECL from gifts -2 ECL from award. 0 ECL total.

PC-1 is LVL 8 (+2 ECL) = 10 and he kills a crab and gets 16 XP.
PC-2 is lvl 10 (+0 ECL) = 10 and he kills a crab and gets 13 XP.

The question is - why two different PCs with the same (?) ECL get different XP killing monsters.

I have a bad habit of trying do do math at 7 in the morning, but let's see if this checks out.

Say you get 100 experience. Ludicrous, I know.
Char lvl 8 at ECL 10 = (8/10)100 = 80
Char lvl 10 at ECL 0 = (10/10)100 = 100

As you can see, ECL acts more as a multiplier than outright a level equalizer.

This also assumes an ECL of 0, which is fairly rare, as RPR also grants you a small bonus to ECL.

This is not a bug, though it's not intuitive at first glance.
