Tenser stance for transmutation specialist
To get to the point rather quickly:
It's known that trans spec is bad for many reasons, so i thought maybe something can be added to make playing them less painful.
A spell-stance (Like elemental avatar for example) for transmutation specialists.
Specifics:
1: Being a stance, means it'd be like a toggle instead of having to re-cast it every ~3 minutes or so.
2: Exclusive with tenser's transformation, and other things that tenser's transformation is exclusive with. So no divine shield, and can't stack that + tensers.
3: Grants the same full BAB simulation to tensers (so usually +10 ab and +2 apr, if your bab is 15 at lvl 30, and the +1 ab per 10 wizard levels that transmutation specialist gets)
4: No spell failure incurred by the spell. Please.
5: Being a toggle with no duration means it does not grant any temporary HP. As that would be rather odd, and having to refresh the temp hp would lead to essentially the same problems that tensers has currently.
6: Instead of temp hp however, it could have some minor regen? Or lifesteal?
7: Since not having a 180 temp hp buffer refreshable makes this the significantly -less- tanky option (even with regen), i think it'd be cool if it had more focus on offense. Perhaps it could get more AB from level scaling than +1 per 10 levels, and get some damage bonus on top? Maybe something like half of your hard intelligence modifier added as force damage? Or maybe full hard intelligence modifier. Or something like +1 ab +1 force damage per 6 wizard levels.
The general idea behind the damage bonus being force is that it has counters, to some extent. Headband of protection would shave off 1 point from every hit, shield spell would shave off 1 more even on a mundane, and more if the person has abjuration spellfocuses.
A damage bonus would make PVE clear much smoother since martial transmutation specialist really does -not- deal a lot of damage
And turning it into a toggle that does *N O T* incur any spell failure also means there's less of the odd juggling of doing -dispel ten to cast one spell and then re-casting tensers. I know for a fact it's annoying.
I'm generally in a camp that'd rather see martial transmutation specialist flourish than get tensers removed from signature spells. It's a funny idea, and i like the concept, just, mechanically it's underwhelming. I feel like that'd help.
The stance could also be allowed to work while shapeshifted - that'd make shapechange transmutation specialist more viable, although shapechange has it's own share of problems (Epic mage armor...)
