Kenku bard spellcaster?

Post by Epik »

I've been thinking about making a Kenku bard spellcaster, possibly with an illusion focus. The point of it would be to be a support character in fights with illusions to daze, stun and all the good stuff one can get out of illusion, and also provide bonuses with songs and be a good money maker with search, appraise and more.

What would you guys suggest on building it?

Try Bard/Evangelist/Shadow Mage (preferrably Wizard for the feat, but nothing is stopping you going Sorc)
Try it on PGCC and see how that works.
You get +4 DC on Illusion for GSF: Illusion
+2 DC from Shadow Mage
+2 DC from Evangelist (mind affecting)
For fear based spells: +6 when using conqueror's canticle before the spell
For non-fear based will save: +3 when using atrocious aria before the spell

Can go with 24/3/3 split, or 22/3/5. Can even get Divine Shield if you spec for it.
Trickery/Darkness domain maybe? For the immunity to darkness and skill bonuses.

Bard song should be at 30 with Eva with Divine Favor on.

Spells to take:
Phantasmal Killer - Your top DC illusion spell
Illusory fall - your second best, and AoE control
Shadow Evocation/Conjuration line of spells - for all the variety it provides
Darkness - your early game control

All theoretical though.

Shaman seems like a better option? But that's going to be Shaman-deep, not bard-deep.

You could do a similar thing with Dirgesinger 17/10/3 B/D/C

The DC would be a little lower but you get massive damage potential in return, have undead mobs dance for you and could summon them (if you wanna go evil route).

The fantastic thing about Dirgesinger is that you can also recharge specific spells for curse song charges once every 3 minutes. Phantasmal Killer, Nightmare and Fear come to mind as being thematically fitting.

It roughs out at 30 spellsong as well and high charisma bard caster gets quite the wide toolset. UMD allowing you to get extra spells that the normal list is lacking for example.
