Items that are X charges/use

Howdy

Out of curiosity, does anyone actually use items that are "X Charges/Use"? Specially the ones that are low level spells?

I just saw a Hold Animal single use necklace on a stall and that got me thinking "Seems rather useless and pointless, why would anyone even use, let alone buy that?"

Items such as brooch of shielding, horn of good/evil, ring of magical denial, etc - that are use per day are very good in my opinion, and i always use them on all my toons.

I also do occasionally use the rods, such as the rod of bombardment, but again only if i loot them and then i'll save for boss battles. Otherwise i ain't going ahead and buying one. There's also the single use raise dead items that i forgot the name, i'll always save them for trading or using them (you never know whats gonna happen in an adventure) - these are good to have too.

So, my question to you all is, do you actually use those random items, specially the ones that are attached to equippable items, that are charges/use spells?

Eyes of Savras are fairly popular because of the true seeing and the fact it gives spell focus divination. There are a few others that see niche use by mundanes. Overall though most of them tend to be useless junk that would be better off sold to a peddler than taking up space in a shop.

For me it depends entirely on the item. I've got some of those rallying cry horns for example which give aura of vitality. There's the gems of nullifcation of various kinds too that are single use and very strong. Same with some of those big stones that have resurrection etc on them.

But a necklace with a single hold animal use shouldn't be in a stall, but sold at the peddler

Harps, my beloved

When the charge counter is accurate anyway.

But you're right in thinking most loot matrix ones are hot dog water. Straight to the vendor they go.

I collect every Saintsblood Pearl I find. If you're going to carry a healing wand then for the same space you could have a stack of charged pearls and a single "in use" pearl.

Seeker blades are another popular one, though I think they are used less for their find traps per charge ability and more for the +5 search bonus. Lens of detection is a better find traps item that is 3 times per day and doesn't have to be equipped to use. But +5 search is very good.

Only see Saintsblood pearls used for medical RP really.
The top tier items were already named, the rest that comes to mind is mostly used to summon funny creatures or do silly stuff with.

Weapon polish is a free bless weapon that pops up quite frequently as loot.
Net is a pickpocket item that allows rogues to run away and slow down spawns sometimes.
Protective symbol of Torm... exists? I think it can add 1 AC to the lowest of levels of adventurers sometimes?

I'd count the elkstones as single use items being the most popular probably. Not for the ability on them, but the mini FOIG attached to them.

Wyrdstones are neat if you have a high str char, I like to use the bandage rolls you can find in crates 'n stuff on low level characters.

I use the occasional spell rod too, ethereal visage, energy buffer, high damage spells for bosses on lower levels.

So yeah, some consumable items are lovely on low levels, beyond level 12 or 15 I don't really use them much.

I remember using the summoning ones and runestones to clear a dungeon at much lower level.
Mobs have terrible saves anyway, even a stonehold from a bedrock can get them, and a chain lighting from a runestone dish out decent ranged damage.

Ring of Succor is a must for the Gish I made, conjuration spec wiz/ Fighter/ WM. Mainly for the 2fort. But I had some uses of those restoration charges when I really need to. Like that time I ate a WoF to the face and needed sight back quick! XD

The spell/day rings I use alot. I remember quickly swapping an invis ring at low level to get me out of trouble. Once the dwoemercrafting rework goes live, I bet these rings will get more popular. The spell/day dont get counted towards the enchanting points. Im looking at SR rings, Invis rings, Stone to Flesh Rings for my own use. There's also the nature rings which are only useful for when you have UMD. The 2 zoo rings are also going to be a staple for most martial build once this update goes live. So yeah. Exciting day for everyone (but Im not holding my breath for it! XD)

Minor Div book also has some useful buffs, also the nature book has a slightly higher level of barkskin.
