As the pinnacle of the summoner's art, these spells are distinctly underwhelming in duration. Suggest making these two spells last turns instead of rounds to make them useful and reflect their position as the logical pinnacle of each spell-tree.
Rationale:
Don't get me wrong, these spells are awesomely reworked. However, upon reaching 18th lvl on my sorcerer; spending the requisite 4 spell components; summoning my new terror; and buffing it; I found that it disappeared before I could actually fight anything.
I literally relevelled three times and ended up taking Summon Monster IX because of these disappointing durations. These are ninth level spells. As written, lessor variant or alternate spells are distinctly superior to gate and black blade on a number of fronts; increased duration, able to benefit from metmagic, use less spell components.
Since no extend metamagic may ever be applied to these spell, their maximum utility would be 30 turns on a 30th lvl caster, which is good for a number of fights or a partial dungeon. This is far more commensurate with their cost in spell components and comparable to the spells which lead up to these triumphs of conjuring.
