For example, assuming an associate is ordered to "Stand Your Ground", they won't follow the PC around to the next area either.

That I believe would be the most useful scenario.
Albeit I'm not sure how this would work with the cross-area party scripts.

Most use this would have is in towns, where you'd prefer to have the associate stay outside the town/on it's outskirts as you attend to business there.
